Question Benzos quit working on me... why? (Cross-Tolerance with Alcohol)

SWIM first started taking xanax and valium back in 2001 or 2002, must have been about 15 at the time. He'd get like a bottle of 20 bars of valium10's once a week out of each month. usually ends up eating them all within a couple days, being completely zombified the entire time. Then one day (about a year and a half later) he got ahold of some blister pack Roche Valium 10's and they did nothing at all. he even tried taking 8 or 9 at a time... still nothing at all. So he tried Xanax again. he can feel the Xanax, but it just doesn't fuck him up, just kinda feels in a slightly good mood.

But ever since swim turned 21, he found that drinking on Xanax fucks him, up big time, but he usually does stupid shit then blacks out. Another time he ate 40 mgs of green Valium, waiting 45 minutes, then started drinking beer. All of a sudden he felt like was on ecstasy, he'd never felt so happy in his life!!! But never achieved that feeling again with beer and Valium. In fact, beer and Valium do nothing at all. beer and Xanax fuck him up good, beer and klonopin make him black out every time.

So has my brain learned to tolerate the drug or found a away to not let it pass the blood brain barrier?

Oh and also, it's not tolerance because at one point I went a full year without and benzos, then took 2 bars and felt nothing at all.

So.... wacha think?

(My first post btw)

Re: Benzos quit working on me... why?

SWIYs receptors are probably a little screwey. Don't self-incriminate, reread the rules. SWIM would take a tolerance break, even though SWIY claims they already have. SWIM was having the same problem and found a 2 month period where he only took 2mg every other week somehow helped his tolerance go back to 0. He had a very serious problem before this with benzo's and also grew a giant tolerance and was losing the anti-anxiety effect (reason he took in the first place).

Benzodiazepines and alcohol can have cross-tolerance.
Just a word of caution: If a chronic user of benzodiazepines stops use abruptly, there is a risk of seizures. The same is true of stopping alcohol use abruptly. Cardiac effects can also develop.

Have any of you (or someone you know) tried antacids or grapefruit juice to potentate diazepam?? How'd that work out?

Not sure if this this the thread for that, but grapefruit juice has several chemicals that will inhibit metabolism and breakdown of benzodiazepines.
I'm not sure antacids would have much effect, but I haven't USFSE.

SWIM always potentiates with GFJ and sometimes with a little DPH. After a while they stopped working on him (even high doses, they'd just start to make him sleepy). SWIM forgot to mention the cross-tolerance...Is SWIY using drugs such as ambien(zolpidem) and lunesta(eszopiclone)? Or drinking alcohol? SWIM highly suggests taking a tolerance break, and then maybe lowering their expectations for the substance? SWIM has found it can ruin any substance experience.
