opiate question

my question is: i had court the other day, and i had to take a ua. it turned up positive for opiates. i have a prescription for vicodin and percocet, but i havn't taken anything for almost a week now. the judge said there was no way that the pills would be the reason for the positive mark b/c he said opiates only stay in your system for only up to 72 hours. is is possible that opiates (as in painkillers) stay in your system for a week or longer? i have court next week and i would appreciate all the info i can get. thank you.

Re: opiate question

im pretty sure they will re-test me next week, but im jus hoping to be able to get the dirty ua i just took dismissed. in order to have that happen, i have to prove to the judge that painkillers can stay in your system longer than 72 hrs. after use.(if your a chronic user)

Re: opiate question

Swim is suprised that the judge can find the time to be a doctor as well as a judge, and give a profesional medical opinion in his/her own courtroom.Swim belives that the 72hr timeframe may be a average, but given the difference in peoples metabolism, the half-life of the opiate taken and a bunch of other factors that swim can't think of due to his current opiated state. It is quite possible to test positive after the 72 hour mark. Also swim dosen't know what the repercussions for testing positive are in your situation, but since your in a courtroom, they might be pretty serious.
And the last thing you need is a misinformed judge beliveing that at 72 hours you will test positive and at the 73 hour all opiates will be out of your system and you will test negative-ain't gonna happen.
Swim would get a lawyer that can get a "real" doctor to write a short letter explaining some of the variables involved. But that is just what swim would do. ................good luck....fight the good fight....carry on.
Oh and please keep us posted on how everything pans out. thebige

Re: opiate question

Swim a drug court participant, and the judge for this court practices medicine without a license too. Swim would see a real doc and get a blood test. Swim would also get a letter from prescribing doc.

Re: opiate question

Talk to your doc, and ask for a blood test (and results). Also, what would be very helpful, did you take ANYTHING else? alcohol, antidepressents, or anything that could prolong opaite half-life? Grapefruit juice and antihistamines could have the same effect, as well.
