Antibiotics and Alcohol

SWIM has been prescribed antibiotics (Amoxicillin 250mg, week course) for a chest infection. As it is new years eve less than a week away and he hasn't started the course yet, would it be safe for him to drink on new years eve? Even though he has quite a bad chest, (made much worse by his asthma) its pretty much the only time of the year that he gets to party like its 1999 and would hate to lose that opportunity.

SWIM has heard many times that you shouldnt drink with antibiotics but he has done it before, with a different antibiotic though.

He had a throat infection about a month ago (must be full of infections lol) and he had the same antibiotics, but double strength (500mg). He planned on going on the town for the night and stopped off at his friends house for a singular drink before setting off. He hadnt even gotten to town before he was being sick and decided not to drink any more and go home.

SWIM is thinking that he was sick that time because they were double strength and he was feeling slightly queezy due to the antibiotics (he is assuming).

Does anyone have experience with drinking with Amoxicillin or know if it is safe or not, and if it is not safe, could they please explain. Thanks.
