Need help Norco withdrawl!!

First off Hi,
SWIM has been on vicodin to norco for over 2 years. Recenty had a 2 level spinal fusion, and has been in more pain that one is able to handle. SWIM started taking 5/500 vicodin 4-5 a day (pre surgery)...2 year later swim's taking anywhere from 7-10, 10/325 norco a day. Swim has been at that dose for about 4-5 months.

SWIM's questions are, swim will have no Norco to take for possibly a few days. SWIM has been prescribed Kadian 30mg, Avinzia 90mg, Fentanyl patches, all to try to help manage pain. Nothing works as well as Norco..

SWIM would like to know what would be the best way to minimize withdrawl symptoms? Also have xanax as well.

SWIM really doesn not want to go throught the hell of withdrawls from Norco. What options would be the best to keep withdrawls at a minimum?
Will taking 30mg Kadian help minimize withdrawls symptoms?
ALL input is gladly appreciated.
Thank You

Re: Need help Norco withdrawl!!

Yes the Kadian will keep you from going into withdrawl, so will the Avinzia and fentanyl. They are all opiates and although the pain relief will not be the same, they will keep you from going into withdrawl. Xanax is a different story though, it is a different class of drug known as a benzo. Withdrawl from them is just as serious if not more serious than the opiates and could lead to serious complications.

In a non incriminating way you could talk to friends and coworkers and possibly find a few to get you through until you get your prescription refilled. Depending on your dr. and how soon it is, you might could also get your dr to refill them early or change you to a stronger dose which would allow you to get a refill sooner. (xanax)

You should do some research on the above mentioned medications and inform yourself a little more. In a perfect world, we would have friends and coworkers that would gladly trade some xanax for a few of those avinzias or fentanyl. But, you would need to know who you were dealing with and need to know the value of both; pharmological and monetary.

Suddenly stopping some medications pose specific health risks and should be done so under the close supervision of a trained professional. There is a lot of good info on this site about the above mentioned drugs but it should not supercede that of your prescribing physician.
