SWIM felt extreme nausea.
About 20-30 minutes ago SWIM smoked one joint with tobacco and hash, and instead of feeling 'high', he just felt very sick and light-headed. About 5 minutes ago he started having stomach convulsions as if he were about to be sick, but said that 'what felt like the need to burp' stopped him from vomiting. Now he feels cold, jittery and generally not well.
Does anyone know what the cause of this could have been? |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
Sounds like a Cannabinoid overdose. All of that cannabis, on top of the hash, probably made for a pretty potent spliff.
Cannabinoid overdoses commonly result in nausea, dysphoria, anorexia, and tachycardia. See the cannabis wiki article in the drugs-wiki for more information on cannabinoid overdoses. It may also have been the tobacco. My cat gets pretty nauseous when he smokes tobacco and has no tolerance for it. |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
After talking with my friend, he told me:
"I don't think I packed too much into it, maybe about 4 little cubes about 5mmx5mm. If it helps, I had been told that it was keif pressed into a block. I meant that the joint was only tobacco and hash, no cannabis. I really don't think that it could have been an overdose" Last edited by Shampoo; 27-12-2008 at 00:47. Reason: self-incrimination |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
I've never heard of a cannabinoid overdose & bud always cures SWIMs nausea rather than causes it.
It was most likely the tobacco. When SWIM used to smoke cigs, being a relatively skinny guy at the time, he would often get very sick like he wanted to vomit. The best bet would be either a bad reaction to carbon monoxide a poisonous gas found in any and all smoke, though some more than others & especially tobacco smoke, or the nicotine which is also a poison. Also SWIy may wanna check out the rules 1 more time. |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
I have to agree with Shampoo - there is certainly such a thing as a cannabinoid overdose. Not in the sense of fatalities, as inhumanly high doses would be required, but in the sense of symptomology. I've observed many cohorts turn sallow and engage in vomiting and immobility for surprisingly prolonged periods of time after a serious rip from a water-pipe, even with moderate tolerances. They had commented that their 'set and setting' contributed to the overwhelming effects of the cannabis.
If swiy was using keif press, there is the possibility that those 4 little cubes may have been more potent than 4 cubes of water-purified hash of the same size in terms of swiy's tolerance to individual cannabinoid levels. I recently posted a question regarding the potential loss of cannabinoids during the synthesis of more potent hash; it makes sense that certain cannabinoids with reasonable water (or other solvent) solubitlities may be lost in the process. Keif, however, would conserve all cannabinoids found in the trichromes of a given plant - perhaps it's a tolerance issue. Herbal healer: It's known that cannabis can act as a general analgesic, but it's also known that overly-high doses can actually exacerbate pain, induce tachycardia (as shampoo stated) as well as unconsciousness. I think you may be correct about the tobacco, however. It sounds like a tolerance issue to me - either to nicotine or cannabinoids (or both with compounding effects!). If it wasn't a minor overdose...is swiy just sick? There are no other criteria swiy has provided to suggest otherwise. Remember, an overdose doesn't have to imply death. |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
Well SWIM wasn't sick afterwards, he's fine now.
He is also not really a fan of tobacco, and it was rolling tobacco, which is maybe stronger than pre-rolled. |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
Just to clarify: yes, a cannabinoid overdose certainly can and dose occur (thank you, Gradient).
Overdose and fatal-overdose are not synonymous. An overdose occurs when the ED50 (effective dose for 50% of subjects) is exceeded, and the negative side effects of a drug overwhelm the desired/targeted effects. In some cases, these negative side effects are death, but with cannabis, this is not the case. The general symptoms of cannabinoid overdose are listed here, in the cannabis-wiki: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...rs_of_Cannabis . If that isnt convincing enough, use the forum search engine for cannabinoid overdose and you will find plenty of threads. |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
I never disputed the fact that a cannabinoid overdose could occur, I just said, 4 me, it was unheard of. I guess I learned something new.
I find it odd tho that a cannabinoid overdose could induce nausea seeing as cannabis is prescribed to chemo & aids patients to alleviate nausea. Thank you, Gradient & shampoo 4 the info. I still think it's more likely to have been an adverse affect to nicotine containing tobbacco or just the smoke in general (cannabis & tobbacco) seeing as both contain hydrogen cyanide & carbon monoxide which are poisonous & known to cause nausea, especially considering the fact that the person in question doesn't smoke tobacco on the regular. & when SWIM quit smoking cigs & smoked after a period of abstainence they found that the tobacco smoke always induced a feeling of intense nausea & shakiness, and just an overall feeling of being poisoned (again, carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, nicotine, etc... are poisonous.) But dont leave out the possiblility of a cannabinoid overdose as gradient & shampoo mentioned

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
SWIM remembers the spin.
The first time swim used marijuana, he didn't like it (was nothing like the dissociatives he was used to). Kind of felt like a mix of sober and high. As it turns out, that's exactly what being high on weed is...but swim was told that the more he smoked, the higher he got. Well, he smoked huge amounts over the course of an hour... World started spinning, his brain was in a mental hell, and eventually vomited. Kind of turned swim off from weed for a while, and it wasn't till several tries later (and some good weed swim might add) did he finally respect the plant. Sal-A |

Re: SWIM felt extreme nausea.
Yep, MJ overdose exists... it's nothing dangerous, it's something like when you go too far with alcohol except you can't get any fatal poisoning..
SWYI's nausea must have occured because of the tobbaco. When SWIM tokes joint with tobbaco he gets sick, nauseated and lightheaded too.. Never have been friend with tobbaco... dunno why |
