LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
I was talking to a few of my friends recently were talking and one of my friends mentioned that LSD-25 (the experiences under the influence of the drug, not the drug itself) is able to increase the user's IQ quite noticeably. I have done some research to try and confirm this, and was able to find some mentioning of it in some articles on LSD, but not an actual article about the subject itself. My question to you all is do you believe this is true, or do you think its a possibility, or know for a fact whether it is true or not?

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
SWIM believes his experiences with mushrooms in college increased his IQ; more specifically, his problem solving abilities. Really experiencing what it is like to have a completely different perspective on the world seemed to add the "power" to SWIM's repertoire of being able to rapidly cycle through abstract, "outside of the box" solutions to a problem.

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
When even beginning to answer the question of whether or not LSD-25 experiences can increase IQ, we encounter several problems. Firstly, we must come to a conclusion as to how we define intelligence. Secondly, even if we are to come to a consensus on the definition of intelligence, we must devise a method of quantifying it.
Finally, after converging on a consensual definition of intelligence and concocting a method of quantifying it, we must construct an experiment that introduces controls and a means of isolating LSD use as an independent variable. I think the first two steps in this process would prove highly difficult. I do believe that LSD-25 may offer a means of examining one's preconceptions and assessing the universe from a variety of perspectives (in a similar vein to what dyingtomorrow described) . Whether or not this constitutes an increase of intelligence is another debate entirely. |

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
At lower doses I don't think that such a suggestion is so far off base; LSD is a dopamine agonist, which is a possible nootropic pathway, 5HT2 subtypes have also been demonstrated to release dopamine as well. Subjectively, low doses of LSD certainly seem to SWiM to have nootropic effects, but I'm not sure how quantifiable they are.
If the question was whether it has nootropic potential, I'd say unequivocally yes. |

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
Yeah this would require a thesis and extensive research into the pharmacology of LSD and biochemistry, philosophy, psychology and neurology.

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
swim thinks LSD produces an experience from which much can be learnt, including new ways to think about things and new motivations to think in new ways. This might feel like an increased IQ, but it is really just that you have gained more knowledge/ideas...

Re: LSD Experience Can Increase IQ?
Once you realize the divine is in all of us it makes thinking about mundane things(much of what an IQ is measured on) very very easy. Since LSD aids in the realization of divinity it leads to an increase in IQ. When one knows that there brain is one of the most complex things in the universe and has more connections inside of it then there are stars in the galaxy, you dont assume your stupid and realize you are capable of accomplishing anything if you put your mind to it. This realization is what SWIM believes leads to the increased IQ and not the drug itself making someone smarter.
