legality of DMT and 5-MEO-DMT

i have noticed that in america, dmt is schedual one, and 5-meo-dmt is unschedualed, i have wondered why this is.

I believe that 5-MeO-DMT is only explicitly scheduled in
Germany, and maybe Australia. Erowid would have more details on
this.

The reason for this discrepancy has to due with the history of
the US Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970, as well as the
clandestine military "research" that was being conducted with
psychedelics, mostly in the 1950's. Perhaps amongst the myriad of
obscure and bizarre substances that the government was randomly
injecting into hapless mental health and drug-dependent patients,
5-MeO-DMT just didn't happen to be one of them.



EDIT: According to Erowid, 5-MeO-DMT is explicitly
scheduled in a few other European countries, including I believe Sweden
and Greece. It is also C-I in the US state of South Dakota.

Just how illegal is DMT considered in the United States? Rumour has it that it can be sold legally here in some places and I just want to find out some info about its status and its dangers because I don't know much about it to be honest.

You have heard it is sold legally?

What I think is more likely is that plant sources of DMT
are sold legally. Example Mimosa Hostilis rootbark has an average of
.57% DMT. I can buy this plant legally but if I were to extract the DMT
or process it for human consumption in some way then Id be commiting a
felony. Pretty F@$#% up huh?
