Preservatives in Tea
Hi i was wondering swims has just made some cactus tea and he used lemon juice from a bottle, would the preservatives in the lemon juice act in any way to keep the tea from going bad.
Swim was wanting to drink it with a friend at xmas and doesnt want a horrible rotting mess in his system! |

Freeze it.

Re: Preservatives in Tea
Nobody will second the freezing, but it is usually better to wait until the day before to prepare something to be consumed. Just make sure you keep it frozen until then, multiple freeze/thaw's can risk contamination/breakdown, as in any food product.

I agree, I was only mentioning the freezing as he mentioned making the tea already.

Re: Preservatives in Tea
swim would freeze it however at the moment swim is living with his parents and they wouldnt be too happy he was storing mescaline tea in their freezer or fridge for that matter!! at the moment it is said to be sitting outside in an effort to keep it cool (its pretty goddamn cold atm!)
any other suggestions given swims circumstances?? |

No. The lemon juice was made under pretty clean conditions. Did swiy sterilize the container? I'm guessing not. Most preservatives just act to reduce oxidation which causes a product to go stale. Since it's what, only 1 week before swiy will consume....If it really is that cold outside, swim might do it. But swim has done some pretty gross stuff before. Swim would smell it first....And swim wouldn't do anything to increase chances of getting sick - No alcohol, sushi, antihistamines or antacids the day before, might be some good ideas. Edit: If swiy doesn't die, post here afterwards to let us know. |

Re: Preservatives in Tea
swim didnt die, swim is having a wonderful trip, no nausea, swim has also been drinking a bit (a couple of cans b4 and 1 on the go at the mo). temp outside was around 5 degrees C so it kept it well. swim hasnt finished it yet however if it has remained this well after 8 days then he thinks its safe for a few more
and no mould, deterioration or nething the only thing on the surface were a few bubbles. also swim only had a light trip would this affect the nausea?? however light it is tho its just so fucking beautiful (he says!!) Ralf_4 added 830 Minutes and 29 Seconds later... also would re-boiling the tea and reducing the amount kill off any mould/nastiness. in theory swim would think this would work but does swiy have any experience in this??? Re: Preservatives in Tea
Well it would for bacteria, but molds can produce spores which can be highly heat resistant.
