Warning: Benzos and booze
Okay, so most fishies know mixing benzos and booze is bad. Well I thought I'd share swims little experience from two nights ago.
Swim was at his parents place and drank six beers. Than he took six benzos. Not a great deal. Just three 5 mg Diazepam and three 30 mg Oxazepam. Then swim had a few fairly strong bourbans. Well swim can't remeber much after that. Hardly anything actually. He woke up in the morning at his own house. His place was trashed. His sister phoned him to ask why he was banging on her front door at 1am in the morning. Apparently he did a massive burnout out the front of her house when leaving. Tyres smoking and all. Swim went out the front to check his tyres and noticed a massive dint and shit loads of big scratches down one side of his car. Shortly after swim noticed in the mirror he had a black eye and then noticed his hand was pretty swolen and sore. Well thats pretty much it. Later that day his neighbour who is usually pretty cool was looking at him hell weird with a sorta look of disgust on his face. Now the weird thing is although swim don't take benzos often they certainly aren't new to him. Admittingly he don't drink often but can usually drink alot if in the mood. Like a full bottle if he wants. And swim has mixed benzos with booze before and all has been fine. Just something really weird happened this time and caused swim to have a serious black out unlike any he's experienced before. Swim will never mix benzos and booze ever again. So the point is guys, try not to mix benzos with booze even if you have tolerance coz some sorta weird shit can happen and you can't see it coming. Swim wasn't feeling too bad just a bit tipsy and smoothe and then whack! Can't remember shit. Scary that he was driving like that too. |

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
Sounds like swiy has learned a lesson here.
Swim is happy that swiy is safe, even if things got a bit messy. Swim is also very happy that no one was hurt while swiy was driving in such a condition. Swiy won't do that again swim hopes! Be well... :=) |

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
SWIM's opinion are that benzos are good for actual therapuetic reasons or kicking back and relaxing at home, or socializing in a situation where alcohol is not the focus of the social gathering, such as bars, parties, etc.
Alcohol, also good for most of the things benzos are, however for a night out on the town, alcohol is probably your ticket. Mixxed with benzos, you likely won't remember having fun, and if you do the things you do remember will be things that you regret. Not good for mixxing. |

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
Swim had the unpleasant experience of taking 2 mg Ativan with a shot or 2 or vodka. Figured they'd take a while to kick in, and started driving.
They kicked in, while she was driving. Nothing horrible happened, but swim was a bit freaked out at suddenly feeling like she'd been hit over the head with a 2x4 in the nicest possible way, while operating a lethal weapon. |

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
SWIM HAS to mix benzos and booze as he is prescribed benzos for legit medical reasons, and is not about to give up his booze, but SWIM is practiced at it, over a decade now. It is definitely not a combo for recreation. Good thing SWIY learned the lesson now and not after winding up in jail.

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
yeah as you now know....alcohol and benzos are synergistic, and potentiate each other GREATLY.....next time i advise you lower both the alcohol intake and benzo intake....and please refrain from driving, you are putting your life at risk, and possibly others.
When taking drugs, know your mind, your substance, and be RESPONSIBLE! |

Absolutely, there are people who are able to be responsible and moderate their dosages but by no means should the general population think that it is a good idea to try and "practice" until they figure it out as most will not be so fortunate as some of the previous posters and do this without having an accident, which may hurt not only themselves, but someone else. Absolutely do not drive if you are under the influence of either drug beyond a therapeutic dose or minimal amount of alcohol. If you decide to mix these substances then by no means should you consider driving even if you have consumed only a tiny amount of each substance. Benzos in particular need to be treated with caution due to the fact that unlike alcohol which is more obvious when your motor skills/reaction time are impaired to the point when you are able to tell that you are not safe to be on the roads, benzos often cause a reduction in reflexes/reaction time that is not always obvious to the user. Sometimes benzos slow reaction time enough that you are a danger to yourself and others when on the road, but you don't feel intoxicated like you do with alcohol. According to a high school text book, a single dose of a benzodiazepine at therapeutic levels can intensify the effects of alcohol x4. That's certainly not a rule, as it would vary from person to person, and many factors should be considered such as tolerance to each and anything else that varies from person to person. But when combining substances, you might not realize your coordination and reaction time are impaired until you take a sobriety test. Even a single drink of alcohol is thought to slow reaction time by a significant amount. It might seem small but is enough to make the difference between hitting the brakes in time and a fraction of a second too late. |

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
SWIM never drives when drinking, only on benzo's because SWIM is prescribed them and must use them at work. SWIM uses a cab whenever going out for anything involving drinking and/or drugs. swim is not sure you were referring to her post or not but just figured swim would tell swiy this swim is not looking to hurt anyone and will certainly not drive like this.

Re: Warning: Benzos and booze
Tolerance goes out the window when alcohol is involved...furthurmore 15mg diazepam & 90mg oxazepam is a heavy dose even without alcohol, but with a 6 pack and bourbon...holy shit SWIY is lucky to have not died from respiratory failure.
Benzos and alcohol go well 2gether, but only at extremely reasonable & responsible doses (i.e. 5-10mg diazepam & one beer). Excessive doses of both alcohol and benzodiazapines, as was the case in SWIYs situation, is asking for problems. |
