Opinions - Strong benzos US

does anyone know what the strongest benzodiazepine that can be prescribed by a doctor in the US is? SWIM has been prescribed Ativan (Lorazepam) Valium (Diazepam) Klonopin (Clonazepam) and now SWIM is currently on 2mgs of Xanax (Alprazolam) once daily, .5 at night sometimes and it doesn't seem to be helping SWIM, either that or SWIMs looking for something a little bit stronger, but does not want to increase the dosage of Xanax(alpazolam). is there any strong bezodiazepine out there in the US that a doctor might prescribe for chronic insomia and anxiety? and if not, is Xanax XR a good idea maybe? they have a 3mg dosage...

Think swim cant get anymore stronger meds, xanax is the best going in swims opinion(he bought some inThailand), and might be given antidepressant drugs (venlafaxine and its variants,) Never had alprozolam XR and dont think they will help (better then the slow release)

Is there a reason SWIY doesn't want to increase the dosage but change to something stronger?
SWIM can't really see the logic in that.
If SWIY can't sleep, then maybe Halcion( triazolam) in the evening would work.
SWIM does not know of any benzo's that are stronger than alprazolam that are prescribed for anxiety.

when SWIM said Xanax XR, he meant ER-extended release tablets. they have a 3mg Xanax (alprazolam) maybe that can keep me calm, and help me sleep but SWIM doubts it too from the research that SWIMs done, don't want to increase dosage because SWIM had a big problem with this before and is trying to avoid it, SWIM used to be on around 6-8mgs of xanax (alprazolam) a day. is now doing good with a maxiumum of about 2.5mgs a day... but the triazolam, is that available in the US?

Like others have mentioned, alprazolam is one of the strongest there is.

Swim knows that XR, ER. Just dont think it will be help swiy.. going from 6-8mg to 2.5mg a day is good ! Going from 2.5mg to 3mg not getting better..

Why in the first place are SWIY on a benzo?
Sleep disturbance, GAD, Panic attacks, Social phobia, seizure control...or what?

your right, SWIM should not go from 2.5 to 3.0mg, SWIM just having a lot of trouble sleeping, last night SWIM could not get to sleep until 4am, SWIM woke up at 7am this morning, this has been a problem for SWIM, feeling sluggish and tired, and at the moment SWIM feels panic and heart palpitations, wanting to take medicine but at the same time does not because knocking out is not what SWIM wants, if SWIM takes his regular 2mg dose he will knock out, but will feel better only for about 6 hours, this is what i fear the most, the time... i cannot take more of the medicine, at the most .5 would be necessary to sleep, but even then no help... maybe SWIM can find a non addictive solution to help with situation with insomnia, SWIM has tried herbal remedy, SWIM has tried Ambien 10mg, did not like it. SWIM would not prefer a hypnotic for bed.. the thought of a drug like Ambien scares me...

Long story short, SWIM was having trouble dealing with pain so SWIM was taking up to 160mgs of Oxycontin daily, now SWIM is on suboxone 4mg, SWIM has been prescribed lorazepam at the age of 14, since then SWIM never questioned until now, SWIM has GAD, Insomnia, and a pretty high tolerance for benzodiazepines. SWIM would like to know all in all which of these would be the strongest benzodiazepine? opinions please.

swim says flurazepam can be more sedating than alprazolam also swiys dr may want to continue the alprazolam regiment and add gabapentin(neurotin) to the mix at one point that worked wonders for swims anxiety it was more gone than it ever was or has been sence if swiys problem is the alprazolams wearing off too soon maybe a switch to a longer lasting benzo such as temazepam would work

SWIM takes up to 900mgs of gabapentin(neurotin) as needed usually, and wonders is flurazepam and temazepam legal in the states? can you SWIM get this from his doctor?

Yes temazepam (Restoril) is legal in the states and is prescribed as a sleep aid. It is a short acting benzodiazepine hypnotic.
Don't know about the flurazepam.

^^Just to clarify that someone who gets Temazepam needs a prescription here in the states as this is what Red Rock was on for some time as a sleep aid

if flurazepam is more sedating, would that mean it has more of a euphoric affect such as xanax, alprazolam? SWIM believes xanax has the most euphoric affect of all benzodiazepines, due to poles and such that claim it does. does flurazepam have a longer half-life than Xanax? also, tempazepam-SWIM has very much trouble sleeping, due to insomnia. how can SWIM bring these benzodiazepines up in a conversation with doc? it seems very difficult to get a prescription for these two, but SWIM would like to give one of them a try, at least for sleep. SWIMs body is taking quite a toll now.. SWIM needs to quickly find a way to get better help, 2mg of (alprazolam) is just not helping anymore. although SWIM wouldn't want to discontinue the (alprazolam) like SWIW said.

SWIY seems to have some pretty skewed views. If SWIY goes to a doctor saying alprazolam isn't doing everything that SWIY wants it to, they are going to stop the alprazolam and switch to another benzo. It seems like SWIY wasnts another benzon on top of the alprazolam, which certainly won't occur. This is assuming of course that SWIY has a doctor which is responsive to SWIY's pleas for help.

Atleast, that's the course of action that I'm most familiar with.
