Winter Drinks and Christmas Cocktails
'Tis the season to be jolly (in moderation of course
):So what cocktails will be tickling flamingos tastebuds this yuletide? Please include recipes and explain what makes it a great choice. Kir Royale: 5 parts Champagne and 1 part creme de cassis. Classic party cocktail, always good for making a girl feel frivolous, gorgeous and glamourous. It can be made with cheap Cava but doesn't taste anywhere near as good, and doesn't feel as decadent. |

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
SWIM isn't huge on cocktails but if he was offered one for free, he'd go for a Kamikaze which is 2oz. of vodka, a teaspoon of lime juice and 1/2oz. of Triple Sec.

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
Bongo occasionally has been spotted mixing a Pearl Harbor: 2 shots Midori (green melon liquor), 2 shots Vodka - poured into a tall glass with Pineapple Juice & ice. Called a Pearl Harbor as these will get you bombed.
He also enjoys a good Pina Colada - heavy on the coconut (must be fresh). |

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
Spiked eggnog is always a favourite, and it sounds similar to Nagognog (somewhat
) so I'm surprised Nag isn't more enamoured with it.White Russians and B-52s are just over the horizon for a Cold War showdown (though I'll be in Mexico soon so not that cold!). Thickly blended frozen strawberry daiquiris are a must, and should be topped off with some whipped cream to heighten the festivity factor. Champagne and strawberries are always a good combo. And of course for when the eggnog gets all cleaned out by nagognog you have to have some nice columbian coffee (how Columbian? well thats up to you, hehe) complete with Baileys, Kahlua, and a bit o' whipped cream. that'll do it for me. |

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
OK. So it's that time of year again.
None of the Christmas Tree lights work, so J and hubby have hit the Liqueur Cabinet. Gin and Cherry Sling: 2 shots gin (we've used Tanqueray, because it tastes too oily for G+T) 1 Shot Cherry Brandy (random bottle, unopened til now, and goodness knows how long it's been there) Hiball glass, topped up with Soda, lots of ice Verdict: Mmmm, far too sweet, nasty aftertaste to the cherry stuff Next is a "Dorian Gray": 1 shot Mandarine Napoleon 1 shot Golden Rum 1 and a half shots orange juice 1 and a half shots cranberry juice All are shaken in a cocktail shaker, 2/3 filled with ice then strained into a martini glass Verdict: Only martinis should be served in martini glasses! And cranberries are very overated.... I have gin, and olives, vermouth can surely be found? Bugger it: Post suggestions here. Nothing with Advocaat (I don't care that it's Christmas). |

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
One part of rum to 2-4 parts of mulled wine, with some lemon. Rum can be replaced with vodka.

Eye of the Tiger (rum and fruit juice) because it comes with a whole ring of pineapple and the name makes me sound tough. Gggrrrr!

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
the ULTIMATE hurricane ( if your into that(which I am)) is 1 part ea. of white rum, dark rum, cocconut rum, gin, vodka, triple sec(or any orange liquor) and chambord, and orange juice. Sometimes I put in 2 shots of oj. oh, and alot of ice. Great drink and a couple will mess you up? Gotta get a nice tall hurricane glass. I like to throw in a lemon and some grenidine.

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
It's actually very good, especially if it is served hot and good rum is used.

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
How is it with the vodka? Am always nervous of messing with the old adage don't mix grape and grain.

Not nearly as good. Only recommended if you like both vodka (straight) and mulled wine.

Re: What is SWIY's Favourite Festive Cocktail?
Am quite partial to the juice of the sugar cane, though, oddly don't like cachaca nearly as much.
Definitely going to try it with the rum and mulled wine though. Thanks for the tip. |

Re: winter drinks
Swim is not big on alcohol, but in the winter she enjoys a cup of coffee with Bailey's or hot chocolate with brandy + Bailey's. Or hot chocolate w/ Butterscotch Schnapps + Bailey's, lol. Yum! That's really good stuff.

Re: winter drinks
Hot spiced cider and rum.
Put the cider on low heat, add cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, maybe some tea or sichuan peppers (not capsicum, this is a citrus relative and has a different mouth feel), let steep for half n hour or so, pour into cup and add rum to taste! |

Re: winter drinks
There is Glühwein and Irish coffee if you like it hot. Another alcoholic drink that's good when hot is sake.
Typical on Belgian Christmas markets are jenever (gin) stands, in all colours of the rainbow and all the tastes of the ..um...fruit basket. These occasionally lead to fights. ![]() You could also go for Belgian winter beers: Palm, Bush de Noël, Delirium Tremens Christmas edition, and so on. |

Re: winter drinks
^^ Swim used to despise eggnog, but her tastes changed & now she enjoys it with or without a few spirits in it. She just can't drink too much of it because it fills her up in a yucky "I ate too much" way. She enjoys having it once or twice a year.

Re: winter drinks
How about just a a plain old Crown and ginger ale with lime? Swim loves that. If swim were a big drinker, that would probably be her drink of choice all year round. Although...swim does like a good vodka, too.
