What do they smell like?

That looks like some pretty high-quality cannabis. Dense trichome stalk distribution, healthy pistil growth and distribution. No signs of over-fertilization or premature curing. What is the density of the buds like? From here, it looks like they are of medium-high density: not solid like rocks, but not airy and flakey like some sativa strains. The flowers are too big to be from a kafiristanica.

There is no way for anyone here, or any one at all really, to tell you exactly what the genetics in that strain are. Based on the size and (visually acquired) density of the flowers, the Kush family is likely. Smell is definitely key in a situation like this. Usually, OG Kush has a sweet smell to it, with very slight hints of citrus and strong, but not overpowering peppery scent.

Unless this came straight from a registered MMJ grower, it is highly unlikely that the strain will ever be determined. However, more info is always better and can help to further elucidate the probable genetics of the plant.

Definitely looks high-grade and most dealers would call that Kush from looks, but Shampoo is correct about determining its genetics.

yeah that looks like kush. the hairs are much darker and furrier. if it is kush it will have a distinct smell that is sweet but somewhat earthy or smoky. not too sweet like fruity. it looks like some great bud.

Agreed about the impossibility of determining genetics with anything more than a vanishingly low degree of certainty; I ask because SWiM recently came across something that looked quite similar being sold as kush, but it was very citrus in smell. Of course, SWiM had no way of telling with certainty what the strain he had was either, but my 2 cents.

It looks like good quality to SWIM. On par with what he purchases at medical co-ops. He has some Bling OG Kush right now (stupid name, not sure on genetics, could just be marketing name) and it actually looks almost identical to those nugs. Also very dense. SWIM has noticed he can hand-break up his nugs (the dense ones like this) and the cylaxs sp? seem to just rip off covered in trichs, and he can just keep doing it till his little .1 becomes a bowl packed to the brim.

SWIM has found this strain the be very similar to 707 headband.

SWIMs Kush seems to be very dense, yet easily breakable (if fresh) and has a smell almost salami-like, with a bit of coffee. Kush is definately a defined "flavour" much like Haze. If it is Kush, prepare to be on your ass for days....

SWIM has no idea why but december is bringing the best dope SWIM has seen in months around. That looks very good with a lot of crystal, even if it isn't kush it's gonna be some good shit.

One of SWIMS dealers right now has some purple dope and he has never seen more crystal in a bag then he did when he got a half O of the stuff. His dealer said it was Purple Kush but to SWIM it doesn't really matter if he can roll 5 fat joints of pure crystal from a half ounce he is happy.

Pine smells are usually attributed to a family of terpenes which are most common to the sativa and kafiristanica cannabis families. Many of these plants acquire this pine smell from their ancestor, Jack Herrer. Some examples of pine-smelling sativas are trainwreck, snow cap, and the kafiristanica: sour diesel.

Forgive me if this is out of place, but are pine smells generally a good thing?

Swim generally is only able to obtain nasty, badly grown/cured mexican brick weed sold as regs/cheap weed, but the stuff is just as potent as what is sold as quality weed, by weight. There is almost no trichome formation, at least not on the outside, and the stuff is very harsh to smoke. Point in case- It has a potent distinct pine smell hidden in the bud.

Swim has encountered mint, mango, and pine smells that were distinct in brick weed that were all good stuff. At least 3 outside, educated smokers confirmed that the brick was fire.

As for OP: That shit looks amazing. Swim has never even come close to that type of quality. /hate!

I think I am interpreting this question correctly: are you asking essentially, "This cannabis looked like low grade in every way, but had a nice piney scent to it, and smoked like higher quality bud. Does this mean that the piney scent is indicitive of high-quality cannabis?"

As has been discussed before, genetics are not everything. Growing, manicuring and curing conditions are all paramount to the success of a given batch of buds. Now, that being said, certain genetics are prone to producing certain types of plants. Some of the more hearty, advanced genetics of the new generations have incorporated many of the classic sativas like Jack Herrer and classic Kafiristanicas like Diesel. The future generations of these crosses will likely display the same terpenes and terpenoids, meaning that they will likely smell the same. Since their genetics also come from high-THC producing flowers, it is also likely that these plants will produce potent flowers. Thus, it is likely that plants that produce that smell also produce high quality flowers, if given proper growing conditions. THC production is much more dependant on quality growth conditions than terpene development, which occurs regardless.

Now, just as a caveat: there is now way to tell the quality of flowers by the smell they give off. Additionally, there is not way to tell the quality of flowers only by the way they look. These are both usually good cues as to the potency of the bud, but only a GC/MS or a good smoke session will truly determine the quality of the flowers.

Does every weed that is high quality have to have a name?? I mean someone who isnt me just bought some great weed had lots of crystals and was just beautiful, and tasted like fruit =] all someone who isnt me knew about it was that is was hydro. paid xx$ and smoked it and got fuckin' high... so does everything have a name? or is it possible for swim to just smoke some weed that is good shit?
