Opinions - will dialudid helpbetter then oxycontin

swim take 120mgs oxycontin 2x aday will dialudid help better and what is it aequilvent to 120mg 2xday of oxy? swim is ina lot of back pain with 2 hernatited disk one comepleate crused and about gone.what would you all recamonned for swim..

note swim has dialudid with oxycode 120mg at hospital when getting antivinum from a copperhead bite both togather helpedalot...... 2mgs of dialudid every 2hrs with they oxy

20 mg of oxycodone is roughly equal to 7.5 (or 8) mg of hydromorphone.

SWIM thinks that conversion is a bit off, though he will reinforce that everyone reacts to different drugs in different ways(though usually relativly consistent)...but SWIM has a source that says:

Oral morphine 60-134
IM/IV morphine 10-22
Oral oxycodone 30-67
IM/IV oxycodone 15-33
Oral codeine 150-447
Oral hydromorphone 8-17
IV hydromorphone 1.5-3.4
IM meperidine 75-165
Oral methadone 20-44
IM methadone 10-22

oxy 30 or 67
h/m 8 or 17

30/8=3.75
67/17=3.94
3.94+3.75=7.96/2=3.85

So on average from these two comparisons Hydromorphone has a 3.85:1 ratio with oxycodone...Or 20 oxycodone roughly equals 5.2 hydromorphone

sorry about the double post, but i forgot post SWIM's answer the original question:

120/3.85=31.17...
roughly, lets just say 31mg of hydromorphone equals 120mg oxycodone

have SWIY give it a shot and see how it goes...like SWIM mentioned before, and SWIY should know,(even though the major similarities will bring about the similar effects(at the prportional dose)), keep in mind that some people may be more/less sensitive to one chemical as compared to the other

When SWIM was on Oxycodone (5 mg 4 times a day), there was a very bad tendency for the oxycodone to metabolize too quickly. That is to say analgesia only lasted about an hour. The doctor made the decision to switch over to "low" doses of hydromorphone at 2 mg 4 times a day.

Using the convertor found here matches what the doctor prescribed.

Of course your doctor may have other ideas. Some PhDs feel that hydromorphone is only for burn victims and cancer patients. When SWIM moved the new doctor decided that time release oxycodone was the right medicine.

Oh the joys of a doctor's personal bias.

thats what swim is on is time relised oxycontin. 2 60mgs 2x a day so equils to 240 mgs of oxy contin a day. so oxy would be better case i would need over 30mgs to equil 1 dose of 120 so 60+ diludid a day
