Tianeptine (Stablon) - Anyone tried this?

I noticed that while most anti-depressants would be classed as being anti-nootropic and clouding concentration and intelligence there is one that seems to improve it and help people concentrate, Tianeptine. It is legal to buy without prescription anywhere in the world I think. It has the fewest side effects of any antidepressant there is, cheers people up no ends, helps concentration, helps memory, has been found efficient for anxiety disorders, and is relatively cheap when compared to other antidepresants. It also has potential recreational uses as its slight stimulant effects are felt within hours of ingestion, though these effects are not as pronounced as its (now illegal) chemical cousin amineptine. Sounds like a wonder drug to me. Which is why swim has ordered a small amount to test it and see if it helps with his slight anxiety and aids his concentration for work.

Heres some general information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tianeptine
http://www.tianeptine.com/

Tianeptine (Stablon, Coaxil, Tatinol) is a neuroprotective antidepressant that reverses the neuronal damage and lasting misery caused by chronic, uncontrolled stress. Tianeptine acts both as a non-sedating anti-anxiety agent and a non-stimulating mood-brightener. Uniquely in clinical medicine, tianeptine acts as a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer. Its puzzling efficacy as an antidepressant illustrates how little modern psychiatric medicine really understands about mind, mood and depression. The side-effect profile of tianeptine is unusually benign. To ask what licensed antidepressant has least troublesome side-effects is doubtless naïve; but if adverse side-effect league-tables were possible, then tianeptine would be a contender for the pharmaceutical crown. "Patient compliance" is high. Tianeptine is oxidised into reactive metabolites and rapidly eliminated, mainly by the kidneys. Tianeptine has an identical heptanoic acid side chain to amineptine; and their metabolism is similar.

Quote:
Tianeptine (INN) (Stablon, Coaxil, Tatinol), is described as a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer (SSRE). Unlike conventional tricyclic antidepressants, tianeptine enhances the reuptake of serotonin instead of inhibiting it, opposite to the action of SSRIs. Tianeptine, indicated as a thymoleptic, antagonises the effects of serotonin in the limbic system and the pre-frontal cortex, giving rise to a mood elevation, unlike the mood blunting associated with SSRIs.

Its short-lived, but pleasant, stimulant effect experienced by some patients is shared with its predecessor, amineptine, whose side effects related to dopamine uptake inhibitor activity resulted in Servier's research into Tianeptine.[2] Suggested dosage is three times daily, due to its short duration of action. Tianeptine is synergistic and has been used in conjunction with other drugs such as modafinil.[3] [4]

Tianeptine is claimed to have strong antidepressant and anxiolytic properties with a relative lack of sedative, anticholinergic and cardiovascular adverse effects, thus suggesting it is particularly suitable for use in elderly patients and in those following alcohol withdrawal; such patients can be more sensitive to the adverse effects of psychotropic drugs.
And Professor David Nutt gives it a mention in his comprehensive overview of nootropics here: Cognition Enhancers (page 22), which he puts under the section 'miscellaneous agents' due its unique nootropic/antidepressant effects.

So, an antidepressant with nearly no side effects thats nootropic and helps with anxiety, memory and concentration. Why isn't everyone using this?!?

Anyone here used this one?

Swim will report back and say what he thinks when his arrives.

Thanks, that paper is about the guy mentioned on wikipedia who took 250 pills a day.

Swim has been taking tianeptine for a week now and has not noticed anything much. The very first time he took it he definately noticed a slight stimulant effect, things looked slightly different and he was in quite a good mood, but since then he doesn't notice any difference when he takes them. Either because there is no difference, or he's just grown accustomed to the difference. Swim also tried a 100mg dose (7x recommended dose) and didn't notice anything, so this one is definately not a good drug for recreational use as its effects are very, very subtle. Swim is waiting for his amineptine to come through and will report back then.

Re: Tianeptine (Stablon) - Anyone tried this?

Stablon is great. Swim found 3x12.5 optimal and very pleasant. Obvious mood-brightening effect.
Ps. Swim has tried Amineptine. No spontaneous orgasms!

Heh, spontaneous orgasm. Nice. Sounds good at first, then you think about having a spontaneous orgasm when shopping at your local food store and it doesn't sound too appealing any more. I think swim will not be using too high amounts, but will certainly be giving both a try to see what effects they have. I wonder if Amineptine would also be considered nootropic, or if its only really Tianeptine that has the nootropic effects?

This site thinks so (really good article on smart drugs in general):

Not all studies adequately exclude the confounding variables of increased alertness, sharper sensory acuity, greater motor activity or improved motivation - as distinct from any "pure" nootropic action. Yet the selective dopamine reuptake blocker amineptine (Survector) is both a mood-brightener and a possible smart-drug.

Re: Tianeptine (Stablon) - Anyone tried this?

Quote:
The main reason for abuse is to achieve an anxiolytic effect. According to Servier, cessation of treatment is difficult due to the possibility of withdrawal symptoms.[17][18] Singapore's Ministry of Health has restricted the use of tianeptine to psychiatrists due to its abuse potential, while Bahrain has classified it a controlled substance due to increasing reports of misuse and abuse by patients. [19][20] Tianeptine, under the Coaxil brand name, has been intravenously injected by drug users in Armenia and Russia.[21][22] This method of administration reportedly causes an opiate-like effect, and is sometimes used in an attempt to lessen opiate withdrawal symptoms.
I wonder if anyone else has any more information about Intraveneous Tianeptine abuse? I wonder what the effects would be, and if they really are like opiates or whether this is exaggerated. Swim would never do anything intravenously, but maybe insufflation or other techniques would produce similar effects. Liver toxicity is also an issue with this one some sources suggest (but less than Amineptine), so swim would advise caution to anyone trying recreational doses of Tianeptine. Swim will wait for other people to try this and report back before he exceeds the recommended dosage, but he may experiment with a double dose or two to see if he notices any appreciable difference.

Though it cant be all too toxic, as this report suggests:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tianept...tion_potential
Quote:
One patient reportedly consumed a total of two hundred and forty 12.5 mg tablets (3000 mg) per day for several months and was later successfully detoxified in an inpatient setting. The report indicated that a tolerance was developed and there were physical withdrawal symptoms.
240 tablets a day!
