USA - Precursor Laws/manufacturing speed

So, a good friend of mine, Tina, bought more than the daily limit of a cold medicine containing psuedoephedrine. One from one store, then another from a different store. A couple of months later, she gets a call from an investigator to question her about her intentions with the pills. She brushed it aside, as she has "severe allergies", but lo & behold, they didn't believe that. She is arrested and now has to go to court.

This is Tina's first scuffle with the law.

She's being doing research out of the ass and can find next to nothing. She really does not want to do any time, but really wants to know what to expect.

What she would like to know from you guys is your experience (if any) with any similar situations. Any convictions you know of, what the circumstances were, what the laws are. She lives in Alabama.

She is really appreciated towards any help you can provide.
