Drug info - some questions about certain muscle relaxers

first off: SWIM has read about people using cyclobenzaprine (flexiril) recreationally, so he took about 5, and all that happened was, SWIM got extremely tired and fell asleep. if SWIM raises or lowers his dosage, will it have any better effects than that?

second: SWIM has also read about recreational use of promethazine, but all he could find was information on using promethazine to enhance the effects of opiates, especially codeine. does promethazine alone have any value as a recreational substance?

Personally, they don't, either cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) or promethazine. They actually just work best only as intended. In my experience, docs give these medications when they might think the person might tend to abuse drugs, but still think they should give something to provide comfort.

Flexeril in particular is well know to be Rx (offlabel) to induce sleep. A nice correlation is seen in the amount taken and the satisfaction felt. The less, the better. At the doses you are considering taking, it wouldn't be safe to combine it with any drug, but specially CNS depressants. After developing tolerance, I took anywhere from 5 to 10, all the same effect of just sleeping if laying down. Maybe tolerance played a factor, but I decided to quit while I was ahead.

Promethazine in the other hand, might have some potential combined with Opiates, but IMO is mainly due to the fact it decreases nausea probability, not a potentiating factor. Also, at high doses, it should not be combined with other drugs, but specially any other CNS deppresants like alcohol.

thanks klonopinz, SWIM really appreciates the information. he doesn't see any practical reason to experiment any further with cyclobenzaprine, or promethazine alone. however, SWIM might, next time he gets an opiate, try adding a little promethazine to see how it affects the normal opiate high, being always interested not only in testing new substances, but also in testing familiar ones in new ways, by altering the dosage, route of administration, or ingesting it in combination with others.
