Brain getting destroyed?

Hi everyone,I suppose I should start of by saying that I am an alcoholic.I have been drinking for years and years. It took me years to realise what I was doing to myself. It all started when I was taking drugs, back when I was 14 to about 16,then I had a bad experience on them.Nothing to bad but bad enough. So anyway I lived with that for a year or so then I found drink to stop my so called flashbacks,as these doctors wouldn't seem to help me,I was young and stupid.Anyway, alot has happened since then, basically my life is shit.I have depression and agoraphobia because of my drink abuse and my past still haunts me,how pathetic

I was doing fine on Seroxat, was on that for about 3 years, just started building myself back up again, but then they were taken away because of some reasons.Tried all sorts, but I get lsd flashbacks now,Doctor is rubbish, she keeps telling me to grow up,I'm 31 now,but It's a past thing that I remember.

Well this really wasn't the reason I was posting here, just thought I'd share some history since it's my first post

The reason why I'm here is obvious, drinking,I'm drinking way way to much and I have got to the stage were I can't stop.I stop for 4 days and I feel really weak,I shake like mad and all I do is crave.Or else I stop for a day and I feel really horrible like I'm about to die or some really weird feeling,I don't know if it is depression,as I am not on any tablets at the minute.I just hate my doc and am waiting to change.

I always get these very mad brain visions or what you may call them. It's as if I am stuck inside myself.Like if someone talked to me or I saw something on the net,If I walked away to do something else, they would almost appear before me or I can almost hear them, like everything is repeating.I would be fine then I can turn around and see or hear,or it's in my head like I'm about to go insane.I would also get If looked in the mirror or saw something on the net,a few seconds later or minutes It's as if I can see that vision again, almost very clearly. All this has made me think that it's time for me to really stop and get my health and fitness back. Can be very frightening.

Have I damaged my brain,or am I just malnutritioned ? I'm not eating these last 6 or so months properly either. Anyone any ideas...thanks for reading

Re: Brain getting destroyed?

Sounds like withdrawal symptoms. You could use the forum search engine in the alcohol forum and search for withdrawal and find plenty of information.

Re: Brain getting destroyed?

More or less the right place. A better prefix instead of "Brewing" might have been "Health" or "effects".

Also try not to include outside links like the random one "experience". often times outside links will contain information for commercial products, while the one you posted merely directs to a google search, it's a good thing to be reminded of on occasion.

Also be wary of mentioning incriminating details. Re-reading the rules and using an acronym such as SWIM should alleviate any further confusion. Check out the link in my signature for info for that.

And there was only one option under Alcohol, which was brewing.

Re: Brain getting destroyed?

I wasn't trying to come off as rude or demeaning, just trying to point you in the right direction so that future posts wouldn't be counted against because in a few points in your post you came close, but not blatantly breaking the rules such as here

That would be incriminating and a good place to use SWIM. Again, I just didn't want to see a new user get beat up for not getting bad habits pointed out early on, not try and dissuade a new member from feeling welcome to post his valued knowledge and experience.

I apologize for any offense that was received.

Re: Brain getting destroyed?

Hmmm... Swim=I. Swim hasn't gone through things like that from abstaining from alcohol, but has known many many people who have gone through equal or worse. One guy actually started having terrible hallucinations, and wound up in the psych ward screaming at people who weren't there. I also know others who have gone through similar things to swiy. They couldn't talk clearly, they started complaining about seeing random shit that they knew wasn't there, and they just weren't themselves. They ended going sober, and as soon as they had gone through all the withdrawal shit, they started making more sense, and had a much more energetic attitude about everything, they were sane once again more or less. swim didn't have to go through that much, but from their experience, swim has seen that serious withdrawals are one of the most painful, uncomfortable thing to go through...Or even to see happen to someone you know. But they also told me that the end result of reaching health again is worth it all. Good luck man
