Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
Let's give this one a bump too! My cat has just begun his 9th month off everything except for the odd cup of tea or coffee [ooh er misses.....lock up your daughters!]
How's everyone else doing? Dickon |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
Red Rock has more than 14 months clean now and is doing great. He has had his ups and downs with cravings but for the most part, he is well on his way in recovery. Life is so much better now when he is free of opiates than it was in the past. He has also quit his cigarette habit and is going on his 10th day free from that now.

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
swim has 27 days clean today and (yeah, swim knows everyone rolls eyes at this, as did swim at first) it's all due to NA.
swim isn't hardcore NA. there's still things about it he has trouble getting into or just has problems with those things. but this is the longest swim has been clean and if he he wasn't in NA he'd be back to using already. it's not some magical thing, it's not religion (though swim is non christian religious), it's just going there and being able to talk to people he can relate to, and hearing them speak and relating to them. swim lost 30 pounds since detoxing this time (starting from 180) and just this week started feeling non depressed most of the time, and started eating again. he is glad to not have his life ruled by drugs anymore, but his head/body still isn't right. swim is trying to be patient with himself but it's hard. |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
Leftöver Crack,
If it makes SWIY feel any better SWIM didn't roll her eyes at the 27 days clean! That's absolutely wonderful - you have to start somewhere! SWIM is happy to hear that NA is working out well for SWIY...! If that's what works then go for it. As for SWIM, she's not started NA just yet. She knows that getting involved with others like her would be a great thing but like with everything else, questions and second guesses anything/everything that she does :/As for getting out and talking with others like SWIY/M that seems like the best idea. Just writing on DF really makes a difference for SWIM, like she's being heard. (Even if nobody's really reading it.) If you ever want to talk, seeing as we're in the same time-line area, please feel free to PM! It's sometimes easier to talk with people online, SWIM has noticed.. you can really get things off your chest. CONGRATULATIONS on being clean/sober for 27 days!!! Sending positive vibes your way!

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
around 18th months clean and sober. Been brewing beer, lots of fun. swim is about to botttle, He is selling them at a small music festival in September along with grilled cheese sandwiches(just for fun). Even though swim does not drink it. Went to a Phish show not to long ago, it was awesome. Waiting for phish to announce their fall tour. Have an application to a four year university in, swim hopes he will make it. The advisor said swim had shown academic consistency. So its looking positive.
Swims been working out at the gym on and off. He takes night classes so he just kinda kicks it during the day. Which is good considering its 102 the last couple of weeks. Started chantix 2 days ago, let you know how that goes. Glad to see everyone is doing well. |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
I hope swiy is better now. Swim always hates this but it is the nature of the beast. Don't beat yourself up over it too much. Swim is trying to take that advice as well. Tomorrow is a new day, right?
Edited to say swim is a total fuckup, she has totally made a mess of things so really don't feel bad. Last edited by cyndi; 17-07-2009 at 20:10. |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
Swim is exactly 1 month clean from all opiates. He feels great to be past the physical w/d part, however he is bored out of his mind all the time. He has no motivation to do anything and spends 95% of his time in front of the computer/tv, just like when he was on opiates. He has still been using other drugs namely weed, ketamine, benzos, somas, and he also started drinking 3 weeks ago (he would never drink before). Swim still feels the need to get high on something every day, particularly at night.
It just seems like nothing seems fun anymore for swim. Even though he still uses many drugs. He is worried about college starting back up in August, mainly because he has not gone a day without doing a few lines in his car before every class (3-4 classes a day) since he graduated high school 2 years ago. He does not know how bad/boring school is going to be without opiates, especially if he gets that ancy feeling to get high on some kind of downer that he gets after about 4hrs of no drugs and is stuck sitting in a classroom writing an essay or something like that. Swim kind of feels like he is just substituting other drugs for opiates. But he is just glad to be a month clean from opiates, which is the longest he has gone since he took his first lorcet 3yrs ago. At the moment his goal is to just keep his drug use varied enough to avoid becoming dependant on another drug, as he has already been through several bouts of opiate and benzo withdrawal and is so sick of them. I guess it is just taking some time for swim to adjust to not being on a drug 24/7, although he still gets high on something or drunk atleast every night. |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
I'm going to say congratulations to everyone however far along in the journey. I had a thought today that came to me earlier and sort of rattled around in my head: "God is a verb". I've no idea exactly what, if anything this means, but I suppose I'm thinking about process.
I have just passed the 9 month milestone, which would be a yellow keyring if I were an NA member. Even though I don't go to NA at the moment I have still been tracking my progress by means of the 1 day, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 (multiple) years key-rings they give out. I narrowly missed out on a black keyring years ago, so I've got my sights set on the 2 year mark. It would be a "personal best". After the one year mark which is obviously significant, 18 months would beat my second best (and only other serious, i.e. beyond a few days) period of abstinence. I am finding life for the most part pretty good these days. There are still a lot of things that need putting in place, but my confidence in myself is growing slowly. I like this thread for it's positive message! Dickon |

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
My life is crumbling apart but recently I've reached 240 days of being nicotine-free. This is 8 months. Yee-haw!
And I recall that Alf had his one final exposure to amphetamine during World Cup in Germany 2006. This would be 3 years just about now. But, to be honest, quitting amphetamine was almost easy, although this was admittedly one of the most destructive of Alf's habits, together with nicotine addiction, of course. It's very, very good to be free of them, anyway, even if only quitting nicotine was a real challenge

Re: Check up on members that have been trying to stay clean and sober
hello, been doing well here. Recently accepted into a university and just attended orientation on the 12th of aug..lots of fun, I really enjoyed it. School will be great. I recently broke up with my gf who had 5 years sober...she drank a couple of days after i ended it..very sad, but its over now. not my problem.. Moved to a wicked new place. I am very lucky to have the stuff I have in my life today... took 19 months not to long ago..totally forgot about it...which is a good thing..i try not to have a one tracked mind..Should of been normal all a long.. Its kinda like saying "I havent been in prison once yet! Are you proud of me!"
For some reason once i got to the university my social anxiety I normally has totally disapeered and I became very social. Just thought that was interesting bump Last edited by Spare Chaynge; 22-10-2009 at 02:52. |
