Freebasing coke with sodium carbonate instead of s. bicarbonate (baking soda)
SWIM is curious on how that would work out? Using sodium carbonate instead of bicarbonate. He has heard the best is using ammonia and it has higher PH, if SWIM is not completly off track sodium carbonate has somewhat higher PH too closer to ammonia?
He did a very small test earlier which seemed to be successful, using about 4 part coke and 1 part sodium carbonate. But to properly determine it he is currently doing the same with a larger dose to compare to what is obtained through the sodium bicarbonate way. Any comments? |

Re: Freebasing coke with sodium carbonate instead of s. bicarbonate (baking soda)
SWIY can disslve coke in water and add a sodium carbonate solution to the coke solution until ph=10...this will make all base precipitate (it usually takes 15-30 mins) and then SWIY can filter it.

Re: Freebasing coke with sodium carbonate instead of s. bicarbonate (baking soda)
SWIM says thanks for the tip!
darkbreed added 2 Minutes and 9 Seconds later... Btw approximately what would be the ratio between coke, water & sodium carbonate to get around ph 10? SWIM do not have any way to measure it... :S Can he just add sodium carbonate slowly until he see it start precipitate and stop there assuming it has reached the right level by then? add sodium carbonate solution. Ideal is 10% solution (10g dissolved in water to make total volume 100ml). Add this until all material is precipitated. After full precipitation SWIY can check again by adding a little more solution.

Re: Freebasing coke with sodium carbonate instead of s. bicarbonate (baking soda)
Hm 10g sodium carbonate in 100ml water, would that not be almost 100%? SWIM is a little blasted in his hat for calculations at the moment though, but 10g is 10 000mg right and 100ml water, that would be 1g / 1000mg per 10ml water`. Which would be 100mg per 1ml water? or maybe 1ml is around 1g of water? Sorry that SWIM is somewhat buggered here heh.
Well SWIM will try with a small batch and see what happens, he suppose he can use 1g sodium carbonate with 10ml water then ey? Would that be enough for converting half a gram to a gram of coke this way? And how would the procedure be done theoretically, just slowly dripping in the sodiucm carbonate water solution for 15-30 min, or all at once and then wait those 15-30 min for it to precipiate? it should be dripped until util precipiate forms. Not altogether, bnut not drop by drop. Just puot it in until precipitaion occurs. The wait. Try adding more..see if more precipitates. If SWIY has some way of measuring ph ...like strips..he should aim for ph 10.
