Doxylamine Succinate

SWIM uses this OTC sleep aid because it doesn't make SWIM feel sick like most other antihistamines. At the recommended dosages, it is an effective sleep aid and causes slight dizziness. If SWIM fights the urge to sleep, a slightly trance-like state can be reached. Does anyone have any experiences to share? According to wiki, it's bioavailability is Oral: 24.7%, Intranasal: 70.8%, does that mean that insufflation might work in order to achieve drowsiness more quickly?

Re: Doxylamine Succinate

the pills are quite small, shouldn't be problems with excessive nasty drip. Do any other turtles vastly prefer this over diphenhydramine? My turtle has noticed that with this stuff, good effects can be achieved with as little as 1-1.5x the theraputic dose, without having to take the massive overdoses of diphenhydramine that my turtle has needed to achieve any effects.

My turtle had a quite terrible experience with high-dose benadryl a couple years ago. He says that doxy is much more pleasant and achieves enjoyable effects at much lower dosages than benadryl or dramamine.

Re: Doxylamine Succinate

Well my turtle gave this a try and wouldn't recommend it. He says that there was no problem with burning or drip, HOWEVER insufflation resulted in bad coughing fits, which he has never experienced when snorting anything else. Its almost as if it went right through his sinuses and into his lungs. My turtle did note that the pills ground to a very fine powder.

He says that the effects were exactly the same as when taken orally, they just took about 10-15 minutes less to kick in. Overall, he concludes that its not worth the probable lung damage, and to just take it orally.
