Finally getting it out in the open

Swim stole a hundred bucks out of his moms bank account yesterday. This morning he went up to her work and came clean with her. About everything. NA meets on sunday and he is going. Hes sick of being an addict. His life is ruled by it. He hopes to get some methadone somehow. Clinic wont be open this thursday. Means have to wait till monday. I foresee a shitty ass weekend.

That's good about coming clean. I think the only way to actually get help is to admit to whoever is going to help you that they can't really trust you, and that you can't even really trust yourself as an addict.

How did she take it? Was she willing to help you?

If you are looking at severe withdrawals or the like, you might try going to suboxone.com and calling up a shitload of doctors on their list. SWIM did that, found a doctor close to him within a couple hours of calling places, and walked out of there with a suboxone prescription.

Methadone has a lot of benefits, for example SWIM feels like it really helps with the cravings more than suboxone, but going to a methadone clinic every day GETS OLD REALLY QUICK, and very few are willing to help you detox in anything less than 6 months. SWIM actually ended up back on H before because the methadone clinic wouldn't let him go down when he was ready to. Also, it takes a long time before they start letting you get take homes, whereas with suboxone you get a month supply each time.

Of course, that has a lot of its own benefits. For example SWIM was able to go from 16mgs a day, to 2 mgs a day within 2 weeks, and completely painlessly and without withdrawals. Then SWIY can keep getting the same dose, and sell the rest off if they are so inclined, to help with the costs, or to get some H. Heheh, jk about the last one, don't do it, it's illegal!

yeah i know that methadone is really addictive too. Swim like the methadone because it lasts so long. My point is that itll bring swim down slowly, nowhere near the way dope or oc treats him (waking up at 5 in the morning taking a shit and insomnia). SWIM actually knows a doc thatll scribe methadone for purposes of opiate addiction. Not sure if its legal or not, but whatever.

She took it ok. She sayd she knew something was up and swim is really glad he finally got it out there. Swims tried stopping before but had no suuport from loved ones. Maybe this time with support things will be different.


SWIMS biggest fear is the insomnia. How long until comfortable sleeping returns?

SWIMS biggest fear is the insomnia. How long until comfortable sleeping returns?

Honestly, if you really want to get off opiates, you can do it practically pain free in 3 weeks with suboxone. It's a lot longer and harder with methadone I think. That's great that you will have support and that your mom will help you, it makes it possible actually.

There's a good and bad side to the insomnia. The bad side is that it is the longest lasting side effect. Some people can't sleep more than a couple hours at a time for a month, and have fucked up sleeping patterns for even longer. The good news is pretty much every doctor automatically will give you sleeping pills and maybe even xanax/valium/benzos during or towards the end of your taper. For example SWIM's brother detoxed in a psych ward, and then went to a doctor afterward, who gave him Seroquel and Trazodone prescriptions no problem.

Yes suboxone helps with sleep, but I'd say methadone is better in that regard since it still gives you a bit of "opiate feeling." With suboxone you feel 100% physically normal, not doped up or opiated at all, minus any mental issues.

I don't know if its the same where you are, but where SWIM lives (and SWIM believes this is part of the federal law concerning methadone, but might be wrong because his methadone clinic lied about tons of shit to get and keep you hooked for as long as possible), they won't under any circumstance start your first dose out any higher than 30 mgs. After that they will jack you up to whatever you want though. Again might be different where you are, but if you're good on 40, 30 would probably work for you too.

It's good seeing people leaning towards change when they have an obvious problem...it's a hard switch for sure man, no doubt. SWIM also had a pretty bad habit and went to methadone clinics numerous time, but like SWIdyingtomorrow said it gets old very quick and its so easy to go back to where u were before.

Go with suboxone/subutex if you can. Methadone feels better but will make it a lot harder completely wien off of opiates. Anything to not make u sick will help you sleep for sure, but just the switch itself will certainly give you mad insomnia. It took SWIM about a month and a half to get back to a regular sleeping pattern coming off of a 6 bags of H & methadone habit.

When SWIM did go to the methadone clinic they started him off with 40mg everytime and it kept SWIM functioning for about 16 hours. SWIM would be slightly sick until the next dosing so he would up the dose to 60mg...but always ended up going back out within less than a week cuz whats the fun of going to a methadone clinic everyday?

Do you remember if it was a policy of the clinic, or a law, when they started you on 40 mgs?

Like I said SWIM's clinic would never start people over 30 mgs. SWIM thought it was a law, but in retrospect it might just be to avoid lawsuits for overdosing some asshole coming in there to get high without a real addiction.

Is it not common for methadone clinics to test for your levels or whether one actually has opiates in their system or not? SWIM attended the same clinic every ime so SWIM only knows their practice.

Swiy should be proud, being able to go to said mother and talk and come clean, as well as making the decision to detox. Swim wishes Swiy the best of luck, and they can know they'll have the support of this forum too.

Would Swiy please be kind enough to write a description of their experiences with the clinic? Like how they found it, what they did when Swiy went there, how much the whole thing cost, etc. Swim lives in Florida and is trying to help a friend get onto something to get off H, but Swim and friend know nothing about the process here, which is definately different than other countries/states. PM or here is fine.

this is swims biggest fear as well...tossing and turning in the middle of the night has gotten swim into a lot of trouble...going out to the fucking ghetto to score some shitty bags at 4 in the morning is not the way to go. suboxone does help with sleep though, swim goes through periods of hard core using, like 5 months non stop and then is scared to take a suboxone because he thinks it wont work...but then after injesting he realizes they really are the best way to get off opiates. if swiy still wants to feel opiated, then methadone is the way to go, but methadone will just keep you hooked, and good luck getting off methadone unless you go to jail and have to cold turkey. :uch:: anyway, swim realizes this post might be a bit old, but still hopes that you are on your way to beating this beast, as for swim, this holiday season is making him want to blow his brains out. or just do a b. peace

Ok so swim came clean with his mom. Now its time to do the same with his girlfriend. SWIM feels like a complete piece of fucking shit for the things hes done to her. Shes got a kid and works her ass off, for swim to steal money from her. She got swim and xbox 360 for christmas, and swims going to tell her to take it back and use the money to get herself and kody somethin for christmas. It wont help get back the trust though...

First, last time I got clean for an extended period, I couldn't sleep right for one full year.
Yep. Sucks.
Second, if you're still hurtin' Monday morning, call up St. Louis Metro Treatment Center, or better yet just show up there at 5:30 am for intake. You'll do like a 2 hour intake, then get dosed.
They start you at a piddly 15mgs though..
BUT - if you stay straight till then, it'll actually fix you right up.
SLMTC is the ONLY place in town that will take you with no waiting list.
Can't mention price, I know... It's not too expensive, your first day you pay the equivilent of 3 days dosing, and it covers your intake and dose for 3 days..
Just take what you would spend on 4 or 5 bags, that'll do it...

turkey is the one and only way. clonapin for sleep, hot showers or baths for aches and pains . Anything this(H) good makes u pay in spades.Suck it up and pay the piper and hopefully learn.
