i was watching the movie "euro trip" and there was a scene were they go to amsterdam and buy a drink that made them hallucinate. does anyone know if that drink really exists?

LOL Yes that was absinthe look it up. Movies and media often over exagerate the hallucinations caused by this.

Absinthe is a drink made by soaking Wormwood in alcohol. You can find
it for sale online from many places, as long as kits to make your own.

Yeah thats Absinthe all right, but absinthe, from what I have heard, really causes very little if any hallucinations. I suppose if it did it might be mild peripheral vision stuff.


And yeah you can buy little kits, to make it,on line for your own personal consumption. As long as you don't distribute the final product I think it is all legal.

Down here i have it at my local grocery store , for a night out a shot is enough to give that extra hypnotic type of alchohol effect 2 shots u get more hypnotised... 3 and beyond ( if you can continue drinking it ) you start to loose it and start doin stuff you prob will regret

There is absinthe sold in the states but it is not the real stuff. Some European countries sell it but from what I hear, its very expensive.

Absinth is legal within Europe since 2 years i think.

But there isn't enough Thujon in it to get really high.

I tried some Czech Absinth which was rated at 70% vol. I didn't hallucinate but I got completely bolloxed drunk. Surprisingly tasty for something so strong though .

I mix it with cordial syrup and normally can drink half of a bottle of
the 85% alc/vol stuff within a couple of hours. I get all sugar-buzzy
from the cordial syrup and wasted from the alcohol and begin to really
get some crazy thoughts and imagining weird things happening around me
in my head, but no hallucinations as far as I can tell.

Let me know how it goes for you. I'm never likely to try that cocktail because it's impossible to get poppies here and I won't touch processed heroine. That stuff is filthy. You should see the places where they make that stuff. Most of it comes from Sicilian slums overrun with rats and cockroaches.

i wasq in pragh and i made the cocktail absinthe redbull i felt great
hade a good party but no hallucinations or other strange stuff

The closest that I ever came to "hallucination" in the few times that I
have had absinthe was a sort of planar vision... it's hard to describe,
but it was like everything was on its own level instead of normal depth
perception... like the way you can layer images in Photoshop or PSP,
but you could tell what was on each layer. Like I said, it's hard for
me to exaplain, but it was cool. <!--

Isn't the level of hallucination dependent on the concentration of
wormwood in it? I think the reason people say absinthe in the U.S. is
not real is because it doesn't contain any wormwood in it. However
wormwood extracts are available that people can mix it with. Original
Absinthe from a century ago contained a good concentration of it and I
think this is where the 'hallicination' aspect of it was derived.



Does anyone know if adding wormwood to it increases the effects to
possibly lead to hallucinations or atleast mild visual alterations??

It's not the concentration of the wormwood, it's the concentration of thujon, the active chemical from the wormwood.



The reason that absinthe in the United States isn't "real" is because
it dosen't have thujon in it which has been deemed unfit for human

If you look good on the internet youcan find absinthewithhigher then normalthujonecontent (around 35mg apposed to 10mg normally). I beleive it was a Czech absinthe brand. Edited by: sg43

i used to drink alot of absinthe in japan (legal). i think the trick is in the preparation of the drink. you pour it over a cube of sugar (there are actually utensils made for this very purpose) slowly adding a bit of cold water so it turns cloudy...
we'd get piss-drunk but by that stage of the evening it's real hard to know if you're experiencing slight hallucinations or not.

Yeah, it's legal here and you can get "gift" bottles that have the
spoon with them. A nice trick is to put a sugar cube on a teaspoon and
dip it in a shot of Absinthe. After this, you catch the sugar on fire
and wait until it goes out. At this point it's caramarised and then you
stir it into the Absinthe. Bloody nice
