[Canada]Codeine

Two questions for your cats :
1) In Canada, can the pharmacist legally refuse to provide you with T1s ?
2) Also in Canada, my cat has been noticing that ALL pharmacists now ask why my cat needs the T1s, for my cat's name, phone number and address. They didn't do that before. Does anyone know if this information stays inside the same pharmacy, or if it is some government database :O ?
3) In Canada, does anyone know about a formulation without caffeine that is OTC ? My cat remembers something about doxyliminate or something like that but cannot find any info. Or is there some formulation with aspirin or ibuprofen instead of ace ?

Thank you very much.

Re: [Canada]Codeine

My cat called her pharmacist because she was interested in the questions and wanted to hear what he would say. He says that pharmacists are legally allowed to refuse otc medication. You cannot make them sell you any. It's not just store policy.

The information pharmacies ask you to provide stay in-store. However, this information can be provided to your health care professional. So, if the pharmacist believes you're abusing T2's let's say, they will tattle to your doctor. The information does not go to any other database, government or other pharmacies. They will not provide this information to anyone without your explicit consent.

Hope that helps, sorry I couldn't give you any info on your 3rd question.

Re: [Canada]Codeine

Thanks, a lot.
Are T2s available OTC in Canada or it is only a typo ? Cause, in my cat's book, 15mg codeine > 8mg codeine :P

Re: [Canada]Codeine

as for the legal issue....the pharmacist does not have to sell you anything....this is true for a valid prescription, an OTC product, a behind the counter product or a pack of gum. if the pharmacist has suspicions about what you are using the codeine for he/she is may give you some hassle. my experience is that in the big chain superstore joints no one cares, its only in the smaller, neighborhood pharmacies that the pharmacist will take it upon his/herself get up in your shit.

and no, every OTC Canada codeine product has caffeine in it. check this site for the activated charcol method to remove the caffeine from a CWE solution. its easy. seriously.

SWIM is thinking about freebasing the whole deal. Ace freebase and caffeine freebase remain soluble in water, while codeine freebase doesn't.
Seems like the easiest way to me !

Anyone knows if other formulations (ibu or aspirin) are available OTC ?

Re: [Canada]Codeine

Look for T1's without caffeine, if they are behind the counter inform the pharmicist of your caffeine hypersensitivity.

All T1's will usually contain a Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammitory. This is good, and I will explain why. The presence of NSAID's in OTC opoids negates suspicion, and they are very easily extractable via a cold water extraction.

Although it does have "5MG DOXYLAMINE SUCCINATE"; an antihistamine that at large doses causes sedation. If I remember correctly, at very large dosages, it can eat away at muscle tissue. I'll ned to look that one up though.

Uhmm Paracetamol/Acetaminophen is NOT an NSAID though.

mmmk!

So SWIM would like to just clarify how to get the T1s. Obviously there under the counter, but what is a good reason SWIM would be asking for them? example, SWIM walks up to the pharmacist and says, SWIMs looking to get some T1s for back pain that regular tylenol doesn't quite take away?

Swiy can say the meds are not for him/herself. More than once this has lead Swim to invent himself a sickly relative when asked the name of the patient. Federal regulations require that the sale of narcotics be registered to the name of the person it is supposedly intented for, not the name of the person making the actual purchase if they aren't the same.

Re: [Canada]Codeine

i recently discovered in addition to the doxylamine succinate product....there's another called robaxisal-C....its got aspirin, codeine and methocarbamol which is a very shitty OTC muscle relaxant.

but it's expensive and i'm not sure if methocarbamol is water soluible...so i wouldn't risk taking large doses of it in a CWE

If you're doing CWE though, I'd reccomend asking for AC&C. It's the same thing only with aspirin in place of acetaminophen, which filters MUCH easier.
