Muscle twitch

This swimmer was trying to hit a vein he has hit many times before and when he put the needle in there was a very wierd muscle twitch/ wierd feeling and pulled the need out right away, almost involuntarily. What happened, this swimmer hopes it wasn't a vein collapsing, could this be it, should it hurt? There is no residual feeling, meening all feels fine now, but this swimmer has never experienced that feeling before.
