Mushroom Turned Blue: Is it Psychoactive?
SWIM came across a white looking, but VERY blue stained shroom. There was nothing around it that the blue colour could of came from and the whole shroom looked asif it had had blue food colouring poured on on it.
It was looked roughly like this.. SWIM is not after an identification, just why it could of gone blue and if that means it had magical powers? Thanks alot. DruMDMAndBass added 3 Minutes and 19 Seconds later... Sorry about the mis-type aswell! Last edited by DruMDMAndBass; 14-11-2008 at 10:53. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Originally white, but blue looking shroom, magical?
If it looked like that, probably not. Did swiy take a spore print? What was the habitat in which it was found? Bluing does not necessarily mean psilocin. For example the "bluing bolete" (gyroporus cyanescens) is an edible mushroom without psychoactive properties that bruises very pronouncedly and quickly. It is also white to begin with and may be a candidate for your mystery specimen. I believe they have a yellow spore print and grow around harwoods.

Re: Originally white, but blue looking shroom, magical?
It was just next to a farmers field that usually grows corn, on a damp grassy area.
Thanks for your help! DruMDMAndBass added 3 Minutes and 28 Seconds later... And no unfortuantly i didnt take a spore print, i'm not too familiar with shrooms.. Is there some place that can tell me how to take a spore print? Cheers! Last edited by DruMDMAndBass; 14-11-2008 at 11:57. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Try Mushroom ID: A beginning and Mushroom Hunting basics for some basic introductory info.

Those mushrooms look like Amanitas (and not the good kind, either). They could well have the ability to magically transform you from a live person into a dead one.

yes when swim saw his pick he thought it looked like a possible destroyign angel or death cap. also, jsut cuz a shroom stains blue does NOT mean it will contain psilocybin.

As a general rule, it's probably best to avoid wild mushrooms you randomly find, unless you really know your mycology. Very easy to mistake it for something else.
