I recently found someone offering Iboga extract. And was wondering if
anyone who has tried it think it has any recreational potential? Edited by: PenguinPhreak |

I think every drug has 'recreational potential'. I'm sick of reading things like, "Mushrooms are not a party drug", "LSD is not to be used recreationally", "The effects of salvia are not 'fun' ". What is fun? Is jumping off a cliff fun? Is drinking till you puke fun? Is playing computer gamesfun? Is driving at 100mph fun? The answer is always the same: it depends for whom. I always use drugs for recreational purposes. A lot of people these days consider this irreverant or disrespectful. Fuck 'em. Recreation for me is self-development, spiritual growth, enlightenmentand all that other New Age bullshit so many drug users now harp on about. That's why I plan ontrying iboga soon - to show that any drugcan be usedfor fun. I really enjoy salvia and all those freaky, out-there drugs and iboga seems to be the one with the least reputation for fun, so I want to prove all the spiritualists wrong by having fun with it. |

Yeah, you have a good point, its all subjective. But I am still
interested in knowing if most people who tried it thought it was enjoyable or not. It never hurts to know what others who have tried a drug think of it before trying it yourself. |

No, it does not depend: Improper use of iboga can be deadly. For apsychedelic dose(8 grams)is very close to a dose which can be deadly. (11 grams dried root) A stimulating dose however a few grams could be used recreational. Every drug is different.

Alpha is right, dose to response curve is steep. To trip hard on iboga is to be close to physical death due to overstimulation. Small doses are a good aphrodesiac, either alone or combined with yohimbe and catuaba bark tea. If you succeed in getting the full trip on iboga, it's not recreational, more like life changing. If you really want the full-on iboga trip, you would be well advised to do it under the supervision of someone experienced in it's use. You would also be well advised not to mix any other drugs at all into the equation the same day as the trip, and best even to not have used any other drugs for at least a few days before the experience. Very bad things can happen if this advice is not followed. Edited by: BrugmansiaBrujo |

From what I have heard Ibogaine is kind of like Yohimbe in that it is a strong stimulant that only produces psychedellic effects at very high dosses. ![]() And I agree with Hyperreal . It is ok to use drugs for fun. Whether is good for a social setting is often dependent o the person. Most people find weed a great social drug. I don't. When I smoke weed I "trip" hard and find it difficult to socialize when stoned. Where as alchohol is a perfect party drug for me, and most other people.

I know few people who have consumed 4-6 grams of iboga extract, which had about 15% total alkaloids. Pure ibogaine hcl has been given over 1000mg in clinical settings to cure addictions. But you don't want to take these dosages for fun. It gives you a rough trip for a few days. Bwiti's has been consumed hundreds of grams of root in the initiation rituals. But they do die sometimes, "if they're not ready". |

I want a rough trip that lasts for a few days!!! sounds like a fun challenge, and the outcome sounds overwhelmingly positive. I wish Ibogaine was some how legallyavailable.

Iboga is certainly not a recreational plant ! It produces puking, extreme shaking of legs and arms so you cannot stand up at some point of the intoxication..."it's not for use william blake"

Mescalifornia, if you want a trip that lasts days, just find you some
2C-P, and take about 12-16mg of it. It will be much more safe and enjoyable than the iboga, and it will last 36-48 hours, taking all of 3-4 hours after ingestion to fully come on. |

Re: Recreational Ibogaine Use
sanyan is correct on alkaloid % for the root bark. It can vary quite a bit and there's no real way to tell what's "commercial"...
With so much room for error it's inadvisable to do this for 'recreation'. There's nothing at all 'fun' about this material, at least in SWIM's experiences. If used for addiction interruption it takes quite a bit and there have been deaths associated with it, however what hasn't been said is that many of the deaths attributed to iboga/ibogaine result from improper/insufficient education: many of these poor folks went directly back (for whatever reasons) to their 'normal' opiate intake and subsequently overdosed. Ibogaine acts like naloxone in that it strips the opiate receptors clean and people don't realize that a typical dose of opiates can be lethal. Do not for any reason take an opiate immediately following iboga use. This is why clinics use the benzodiazepines post-session...it mitigates any lingering withdrawal symptoms and helps relax the 'patient'. Oftentimes people that have been addicted have difficulty distinguishing the symptoms of 'iboga fatigue' from those of post-acute withdrawal and think that 'it didn't work' resulting in fatal overdose. Please please take care with this material, it is not for fun. While smaller doses are indeed stimulating, it still is a far cry from 'fun' and any health problems or medications can seriously affect the outcome. One more thing - don't mess around with the WHOLE ROOT. This will make you sick, it is the root bark that has the medicine in it, and that's where these alkaloid % are generated. Using whole root and/or confusing the numbers with root bark can cause big problems. Take care! |
