Massive dose of 5-htp?

What would happen if one were to swallow a massive amount of 5-htp capsules? Don't worry, Monkey isn't planning on doing it, as far as he could see it could potentially be pretty dangerous. Does anyone have any idea?

Back when Swim was a drug newb, he'd eat large amounts of 5htp to try and elicit effects. Nothing happened to him, but he would not recommend anyone trying it. Swim has often been lucky where others have not.

As SWim understands, 5-HTP or L-5-HTP is a little pill that helps your brain produce seritonin. Gives you very vivid dreams. In this sense, SWim would assume that you wouldn't die by taking a whole bottle, but you would definitaley have some pretty bad side effects. This is just an assumption.

SWim said 5-HTP is like an after party pill, after doing XTC or L you take a 5-HTP to replinish your seritonin levels so you don't feel all drained.

Well, swim got sleep paralysis and hypnic jerks when he tried 250mg a day for three days before. But this does not seem to be a common side effect for anyone else, and seems to be unique to swim. Also the mdma swim was using before this may have played a role, but it has happened since when no mdma was involved (again at 250mg a day)

Could I get high just from taking 5-HTP?

Sort of. If being slightly cheerful and giddy for 10-15 minutes is worth a day of feeling sick (severe gas, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) One of the things that has constantly amazed me is the adventurousness of drug users: If you can think of it, somebody has probably tried it. Massive doses of 5-HTP have been tried, and the results were less than encouraging if you wanted a recreational effect.
