The poppy problem in Afghanistan

Just a thought, but... instead of trying to completely eradicate poppies in Afghanistan (which we all know they're never going to succeed in doing) why don't the powers that be actually employ these farmers to grow poppies for the pharmaceutical industry?
Seems like a simple solution to swim, though i don't think all the big drug lords who profit so much from this country would be too pleased.
Just a thought.

Good idea. I personally don't think the poppies should be eradicated although that is definitely from a bias. lol
