Effects - What are the main side effects of cannabis?

i would like to know what the main side effects are please? as i'm trying to support a member of my family

Main side effects: paranoia (will subside after the body gets used to thc,& is strain dependant, ussually occurs in people new to smoking/ vaporizing cannabis), possible panic attack depending on the person & strain, red eyes (a given), enhanced creativity, possible philosophical thinking, depending on the person & strain; lazyness or apathy, depending on the person & strain; increased motivation/ attentiveness, laughter, calmness, temporarily increased heart rate, etc..

swim personally on occasion experiences negative effects including- dry mouth, paranoia (only lasting for alittle while), anxiety and panic attacks (both also lasting not very long, the longest one EVER experienced by swim was 30min.), increase in heart rate (which is safe as long as one doesnt have a heart disorder, not lasting long but could be a catalyst for anxiety or paranoia like someone thinking 'oh shit im having a heart-attack', which of course they aint. basically all the negative effects swim experiences (minus dry mouth) are due to smoking when anxious already, smoking in a negative mind state, smoking with people you dont really know.

for swim the positive effects definetly out weight the negative.

yes after smoking (when main effects wear-off) people tend to get sleepy/drowsy.

sorry for all the ? but as a mum i am trying my best to know and to understand what she is going through

Once the effects have worn off there are no real downsides other than sleepyness which only happens with some ppl. Other than that she will b completely back to normal as if she hadnt even smoked/vaporized.

yeah no significant down side, even if smoked heavily it wont cause a withdrawl syndrom like heroin or alcohol, at most if smoked daily for years then stopped all at once one shouldnt expect much more than insomnia, agitation, and depression which would go away in like a week. the 'gate-way theory' that says marijuana leads to hard drugs has been scientificly disproven. no one ever died of a marijuana overdose. it doesnt harm any organs. theres still debate among researchers and scientists as to whether after decades of heavy use it could cause lung cancer, but theres never been a case of a pot smoker deveolping lung cancer who didnt also smoke ciggarettes, so it inconlusive at the moment. smoking during pregnancy should be avoided as its been shown to cause under-weight babies.
the biggest downsides would be sleepiness and possible mood change (like being short tempered or depressed, or the opposite being in a good mood, in california where medical marijuana is legal it can be precribed to patients suffering from depression or anxiety, but remember every human body is different). also of course while your on it or even a few hours up to about a day after you smoke your short-term memory is impaired, of course not like it is while your actualy high. and theres possible apathy, and laziness from heavy use (all heavy users dont experience that. and swim doesnt know how much and how often your daughter smokes, even if he did he wouldnt be much of a help as every body is different). heavy use would be defined as daily use, multiple times a day.

It also dosen't make you a smart cookie, short term memory takes a hit. Other than that, I didn't notice going off it after smoking multiple times a day for 3 weeks straight.

Seeing as you live in the UK swims biggest concern would be your daughter smoking contaminated cannabis as there are huge amounts of this.

When swim was younger nearly everybody smoked a contaminated form of resin called soapbar which contains a lot of chemicals and nasty stuff far worse than any cannabis although the newspapers are banging on about "skunk" the real dangers for kids are contaminated cannabis they tend to use it because it's cheap and they can't afford skunk (although a lot of it these days is being ground down with glass and other nasties to up the wieght) the only way to avoid this entirely though is growing swiys own but swim guesses that isn't somewhere we want to go in this thread.

Side effects of contaminated cannabis is a tight chest sore throat and coughing (not caused by infection obviously) for a few days after using said contaminated substance.

Swim feels being open and honest with kids (although swim doesn't have any) is important rather than making them go and light up round the corner and do it anyway swim feels it is much better to talk about how much she uses how often, make sure she's open the most you can do is try and control the amount she has and dissallow habitual smoking (waking up and smoking all day until bed everyday).

As for side effects of regular cannabis when smoking indicas he feels quite lethargic and can't be bothered to do much although when smoking sativas (less common in the UK) swim feels pretty alert and can get college work done (and sometimes even hoover).

Just remember cannabis isn't illegal because it's bad it's bad because it's illegal.

One puff and your hooked for life on herion. Would you believe that was a the "normal" thinking from the 30's through the fifties. SWim believes the muncies with all the obese people out there it is one of the main side effects. Another is the cost.

my daughter has been using for the past 6 months and usually its everyday except weekends when of course she is at home..

i have found she has been rather moody, and also very sleepy, also is skipping school to use which is why we did wonder if she was taking something

of course we are trying to be as supportive as we can

From swims on experience at school (skipping off lessons to go and get high) for swim wasn't so much caused by the weed it's self but rather a disregard for school if the cannabis wasn't there swim is sure he would of still skipped school because swim didn't care for it.

Swim feels it's very easy to put weed as the problem because drugs are an easy scape goat and that generally problems are already there and cannabis or any other drug can be a coping mechanism rather than a cause.

Main side effect for Swim is getting dependant, as in, he wants to smoke at least a few times a week, because it's so damn enjoyable. It's annoying to no be able to smoke. No memory or motivation problems, no sleepyness either.

Swim smokes heavy, and rarely coughs or notices effects from being a heavy smoker.

Negatives from pot are practically non-existent compared to other drugs.

When taken right before school, SWIM feels like his performance is somewhat enhanced, if the side effects aren't too bad. Side effects that may counter SWIM's school performance in a bad way is mainly the drowsiness. SWIM suffers from ADD, and he feels like cannabis helps his thought process clear up etc. Medical Marijuana is being used as treatment for Attention Deficit Disorder in Southern California, so it actually is considered a suitable treatment.
