Re: Pro-drug pressure groups
(skip to bottom of post for a useful campaigning tactic that could have been done recently, the rest of this post is a social experiment idea alternative to current drug policy, could be piloted perhaps, in an enclosed area somewhere - though the US government would never let other countries do it)
believer the problem with that is it:
1) treats people as incapable of making their own decisions
2) allows addicts to abdicate responsibility for their actions by blaming it on addiction.
the problem is not the drug, it is the users stealing and then screaming "it's not my fault it's the drugs!". boo hoo, poor you. that's just not the case, those users CHOOSE to steal and the problem is their SELFISHNESS not the drug (and yes swim has stolen in the past to feed a drug habit).
give the addicts something else to do, like get them on a work program where they can work for drugs from the state. not just sweeping the street and all the crap jobs, things that the addict can be worked into slowly where their less than reliable nature won't be a problem, like picking thing in fields (it's outdoor), or improving the community by cleaning up grafitti. they are not forced to do this, it's up to them. just make sure there are more addicts needed so they can cover eachothers flakeyness. don't give them the drugs if they are too flakey. this way they only have to do say an hours work for their heron instead of a whole day and they won't need to steal - and will have absolutely no excuse for doing it either.
some will cry exploitation but the government never encourages or advertises it (spread by word of mouth, there is one phone number nationally to call to enter the program) can also offer free rehab to all if at anytime they want to stop, they can be checked into rehab. rehab should not be a fun place at first, they should be cured of their drug addiction in a depressing way (the lock em in a room type) but then given a lot of fun activities and career guidance to do before being released back into society so they have other choices of activity. it's voluntary, you can't abandon it once you've started but you have to volunteer yourself in.
it can be paid for by the cheap labor the government gets by mass producing drugs for those who will work for them. selling these drugs is punished fairly severely as it's just selfish profiteering and works against the users rather than for them, and will upset the ability of the system to function properly. drug users should be encouraged to squeal on dealers who are working and reselling the government drugs for attempting to spoil "our good thing".
they say drug fund crime, so why not fund the government instead? the only people who lose are the dealers. oh well, join the government dealing program instead. it doesn't pay as well but you still get drugs and work to improve the world.
and it's all down to the individuals choice. if they don't like it they don't have to do it and are offered the best help in the world to stop it.
the drugs are as healthy as they can be and the harm is as minimal as it can be.
and the antisocial thieving and stealing no longer have a justification since the money isn't needed for the drugs. a lot less of it will happen and there will not be the possibility of abdicating responsibility for doing it because an hour of your time is not a lot to give away for a good buzz. 8 hours is.
but back to the point which was pro-drug groups, yes really i mean anti-prohibitionist groups who would prefer sensible policies instead of "no cause nanny says so".
like the other day the EURAD had tea with the mps for parents to talk about how badly cannabis had effected their kid over tea.
so a good opposition group would turn up (unannounced) and talk to the MPs over tea about all the positive aspects of drugs, showing research countering the EURAD claims like the positives of medical ganja.
