Re: Gurning

magnesium is good for prevention, time is good for healing. No serious harm was likely done.

I dunno if heat or ice does anything, but maybe just have a lie down for a while and watch some tv. Only time will heal.

Re: Gurning

It's like ulcers, swim bit her tongue and side of her cheeks.
Is the prevention of gurning possible?
It's really weird because swim never used to do this.

readyforthefloor added 1 Minutes and 25 Seconds later...

Oh, didnt see that, magnesium?
Swims friend tried taking magnesium tablets before a heavy night and she said it didnt work.
Swim might give it a go anyway, thanks.

Magnesium is good for gurning, but if you take this, you have to take its, partner calcium, too.
If you dont, the mag will cancel out the existing calcium in your blood.
The same if one takes calcium, they need magnesium.
Y takes a tablet with both of these in, which can be bought cheaply from any health food chain.
Take it with food, Y takes about a gram, one with dinner, one with tea.

Re: Gurning

Your best bet is to go down to your local chemist to see what they have to treat ulcers. Generally there are gels available to help avoid biting ulcers and maybe some other shit available.

Re: Gurning

dont worry swim has spent months in total gurning and experiences nothing more than an occasional urge to gurn in inappropriate situations. it doesn't matter chill, just take less mdma.

i dunno where ulcers come from other than comment "It's like ulcers, swim bit her tongue and side of her cheeks."

but people are like that.

don't worry too much over gurning itself.

worry if you are doing it more than twice a month. and stop it now (or cut back) before u get brain damage cuz its not worth it.

Re: Gurning

I've quickly patched up some info here that might be of help. A bit disjointed but perhaps it will give you a start. Good luck.

Mouth ulcers

Essential oils can be used as an alternative treatment for various problems
What are and what causes mouth ulcers?
Mouth ulcers or aphthous ulcers are tiny open sores which develop in the mouth, on the tongue, the roof of the mouth, on the mucus membrane inside the lips and cheeks, and in the grooves between gums and cheeks.
It starts as a burning and tingling sensation and a slight swelling of the site. The center of each ulcer is white, surrounded by an inflamed red border, which is tender to the touch. Ulcers can last from two days to three weeks; they heal spontaneously leaving no scar.
Mouth ulcers could be caused by a mild virus infection, but some research shows ulcers are brought on by a state of anxiety or emotional stress.
While having mouth ulcers, avoid acid or spicy foods that can cause more pain, hard foods, coffee, smoking and alcohol.
A cotton bud dipped in Tea Tree Oil can be applied neat to the ulcer for immediate relief.

Mouthwash for mouth ulcers

As a mouthwash use 5ml salt and 2 drops of Tea Tree oil in 500 ml warm boiled water. Another mouthwash that can be used, to swish around the mouth and then spitting it out, is made as follows:
2 drops Peppermint oil, 2 drops Thyme oil, 2 drops Lemon oil, 2 drops Tea Tree oil, 2 drops Geranium oil, 10 ml brandy, 1 glass of warm water

A mouth ulcer is an open wound in the mouth where tender nerve endings are exposed and can often cause extreme pain to the person who is affected with them especially when they can become irritated. Often a person suffering from mouth ulcers will find it difficult to eat, drink and sometimes even talk and unfortunately these exposed ulcers are vulnerable to infection by bacteria that is find in our mouth and unfortunately create even more pain.

Many mouth ulcers often seem to start off as a small bubble or blister which then becomes open and ulcerated and this is when the pain really starts. However, they can be caused accidentally by someone biting themselves or there lips are so dry that they crack and then the ulcers begin to form on their lips.

Normally mouth ulcers are caused by either virus, bacteria or fungus and may result in the body's own immune system attacking the mucosal lining of the mouth. In some cases people who suffer from either Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease (intestinal conditions) may find themselves suffering from mouth ulcers also.

A good way of treating mouth ulcers is with coconut oil which kills the bacteria that causes them. It is also good for treating throat infections, gum disease and cavities. Certainly the Pacific Islanders who have a coconut based diet have excellent dental health and rarely suffer from mouth ulcers even when they have never brushed their teeth or used floss or anti-bacterial mouthwash.

Certainly coconut oil is ideal for helping to relieve the pain felt from mouth ulcers instantly all you need is get a tablespoon of coconut oil and hold it for a minute on the mouth ulcer. Soon you will feel the pain going away and this relief seems to last for quite a while because of the MCFA's (medium chain fatty acids) find in coconut oil which are rapidly absorbed in to the body and thus the healing process is accelerated.

The way coconut oil works is that it has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and which can help to combat viruses, bacteria and fungus that can be found in a persons mouth and will cause ulcers. The MCFA's which are in coconut oil also help to enhance the body's own immune system and thus help it to fight viruses, fungus and bacterial problems. Also coconut oil is great for helping a person's intestinal system by killing any fungi found in the intestinal tract.

Above are a number of reasons as to why coconut oil can not only help to treat and heal mouth ulcers but also to help prevent them from forming. Also coconut oil is not messy to apply to the ulcer and is completely edible and natural.

Also, might try mouthwash gargle with a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution as well.

Re: Gurning

it's not an ulcer, ffs, it's just a sore from chewing on the inside of your mouth obsessively. They go away in a few days and many users report the use of mineral supplements as outlined in prior posts as effective preventions methods.

Re: Gurning

Swim would say they were definatly ulcers as they lasted for 6 days after the initial gurning session and they are VERY painful perhaps even more painful than when swim broke her rib.
But swim wouldnt bother going to the dentist for that.
Thankyou very much guys, salt water and bonjela seemed to do the trick.

Re: Gurning

mmm just stop chewing your face off.

i mean we have all been there and done that back in the day but after a while you just dont right? you would be surprised how easy it is to stop doing it if you just tell yourself not to do it.

i used to be in pain for days after and then i started to control my chewing/gnawing/gnashing whatever it is and now i dont suffer any side effects.
also another thing is to eat. everyone thinks that eating is cheating but the sooner you get a feed into you once you start to feel the chewing is getting out of control, the better you will feel (both at the time and the next day). PLus you find that you come down a lot less if you have a feed...
Hope this makes sense and helps you. happy partying...

SWIM and SWIM's friends are always far, far too busy buzzing to tell themselves not to gurn. Even when SWIM has gum his friends take one and forget to even chew it because they're rolling so hard.

That said, SWIM finds that Oraldene (As it's called in the UK) is quite good to rinse with before going to bed after gurning. It's for gingivitis and other general mouth ailments. Or just plain old mouthwash is good too (SWIM like's alcohol based - seems to work a bit better)

Ouch! Swiy should try a teeth guard, pacifier or something to chew on next time.

Swim has used a product called orajel for mouth ulcers. Very effective imho.

If you're planning on taking magnesium, note that there are two types. Magnesium Citrate and Elemental Magnesium. IIRC I think you want Magnesium Citrate to stop gurning more effectively, although I may be wrong.

Also over consumption of magnesium could give you diarrhoea.

Re: Gurning

Get those chewing gum strips, have about 2 in your mouth and chew away, makes your jaw ache but prevents the nasty cuts and holes you get in your tongue and cheek.
Also if you have a retainer when u finally end up managing to get to sleep they're really helpful since my homie quite often goes to sleep and gurns in his sleep and wakes up with an aching mouth.
Also he finds brushing his teeth seems to help the gurns.
Magnesium tablets are known to work but he's never bothered tbh.
