Coleus (sp. blumei, pumila) is a common houseplant that can be found
in almost any garden store... Mazatec Indians supposedly used it for medicinal purposes - chewing (or making tea out of) 50-70 FRESH leaves (dried doesn't work, and you can't smoke them) apparently gives an experience similar to a mild mushroom trip (lasts like 2 hours or so). There isn't really much information on it... as far as I know, the active compound is unknown (although it is believed to be an 'unstable crystalline polyhydric alcohol'). The chemistry of the plant is supposedly related to salvia. Many people are allergic to the plant (dermatitis)... I would think it might be a bad thing if they ate it. There are also some hybrids that are toxic (contain chemicals that depress the nervous system), so you'd have to be pretty damn careful of what one you bought. Soooo... what I was wondering was mainly if anyone here has any experience with it. Most of the trip reports I found were pretty inconclusive (people preparing the leaves wrong and getting no results, stuff like that)... Last edited by Phungushead; 23-05-2009 at 00:24.
