Drug info - what's the difference between marijuana and hashish?

SWIMs not really an expert on this subject. He started smoking marijuana last year as a supposed aid to help me with my depression. This was the first time He'd ever tried "drugs". He did it about 3 or 4 times.

But it wasn't really as He expected. It didn't make SWIM feel any different at all. Plus it seemed to be missing that famous and recognisable "aroma".

However SWIM do remember a few years back he was offered some marijuana by a friend of his, and that it did in fact have the desired affect. It made SWIM relaxed and of course the smell was good too.

So had SWIMy friend given SWIM HASHISH? As I said, He's a complete novice at this, but SWIM do remember his friend had a little lump of something and he sprinkled it over some regular tobacco before rolling it up. Is that what people do with Hashish?

Thanks guys. I know I'm probably coming across as really stupid and not to mention, completely uncool....but ehhhhhh...if I don't ask, I'm never going to know.
