Transition from morphine to tramadol

SWIM has been taking prescription morphine for pain for about 3 yrs. SWIM wants to stop the morphine because of the negative effects it is having on SWIM's body and mind.SWIM has reduced his dosage to 20mg every 6 hrs. Doc says SWIM must reduce morphine intake to 20mgs 2x per day before he can begin the transition to tramadol. SWIM is in terrible pain. Anyone out there with similar experience? Is it necessary to reduce the morphine to that minimal amount before introducing the tramadol? Any suggestions for not only getting thru the withdrawal but also for dealing with the pain?

Yes, by reducing the amount of morphine swiy is ingesting it'll make the transition more easier swim would imagine. Swim has no experience of replacing morphine with tramadol but he can tell you that tramadol is very weak and morphine is the daddy, that's why swiy would want to reduce the morphine before going on to the tramadol, or swiy might get bad withdrawals from the morphine, or lack of.

May swIm suggest kratom as an alternative to both morphine and tramadol?

Tramadol will definately be better than nothing, but do not expect it to be the same, or even close to morphine. It will last longer, but Swiy will need to make sure not to take or be on any SSRI's, antidepressants, and to be careful with other medications. DXM, MDMA, and such are unsafe to mix with tramadol.

Swim is a Nam vet this has been all prescribed Meds from VA . It Staarted with 8-750 mg lortab + 40 mg liquid morphine evry 6 hrs. i have moved to Costa Rica. They said that amont was almost lethal. They gave me 2-20 mg to take every 6 hrs I have many a wound , a hip that was replaced, a leg full of schraooenal and some glass of which some still exist , back surgury, and still have a bullet in my back. Lost most muscle inrt calf and I can go on and on with osteoarthritis at age 57. 12/ 14 /51. Swimis down to 1 20 every 6 and weaning down slivers. The Pain is becoming Overwhelming. In Costa Rica there is Arcoxia . ? What is Kratom , and is it available here? What to do Please help Thank you You may pass this to whoever you may seem fit to answer this TY agn

Kratom is available at many online vendors. It's a opioid receptor agonist (mu, I think). It's weak compared to morphine, but it can definitley help with any withdrawal symptoms swiy might be facing when downgrading from morphine to tramadol. See the Kratom subforum (Ethnobtonicals forum)

I pesonally like grapefruit juice! I like their shape as well, as they are so round and firm! And if ya bitem' just right, they squirt like the real thing. LOL, Sorry- Couldn't help myself. Hey Thanks all for the Info. As I sit here at almost 3 a.m. I am very happy to say That what started 7 Years ago, is now a lot of pain, but I think I am down. I can't believe that the V.A. Hospitals had Prescribed me 8-- 750mg Lortab + 50 ml liquid morphine for fast relief, before each 2 Lortabs. Came to Costa Rica as they told me that could had been "lethal dosages". I sit here awake, and know why. Cause Im feelin' the "doom" that made me cry.
My Spirit is back and strong as ever, And for the first time in 8 years I can say "NEVER". I'll walk with the pain, indeed I will. And I'll do it without that G.D. Pill. So if you ever say taht ya can't come down. Be firm, be strong, and quit F'in around.

Swim new grapefruit juice would find its was into this thread. Also why Doctors continue to prescribe high doses of tylenol 500mg or 750mg. If they think you need a sked III opioid at least make it Norco 10/325. Back to Tramadol, yes it is a weak opioid and will help with the W/D's.
