Tattoo
Alright, my friend is going in for a tattoo and he is shit scared of needles, and of course pain. The tattoo he wants is very personal to him but the needles are scaring him off.
He knows taking painkillers before a tattoo is a bad idea because they thin the blood but he's been thinking of a few things. Ketamine, it's used as an anaesthetic so surely a small-medium (he's never tried it yet) dose would numb the pain significantly? DXM - same as above (again never tried) And lastly, topically applied cocaine to the area due to be tattooed, he heard it was a good numbing agent! Thanks |

Re: Tattoo
Honestly, if your friend just looks away and breathes through the stinging (that's all it is honest) they'll be fine. Loads of tattoo places have this topical numbing cream or spray for the nervous but if the tattoo is not on his knob, then just go sober. Swims hurt more whilst smacked up. drunk and on glue far more than when he just "did it" sober.

Re: Tattoo
honesty i have a few and they dont hurt, they just feel like lots of annoyining pin pricks. i was scared for my first one, but i almost laughed when i found out what it felt like. for one tattoo swim was under the influence of about 400mg of dxm (not to avoid pain just cause he wanted to gett fucked up) and he didnt feel a thing not even the annoying pin prick sensation; make sure your friend doesnt go in too high (not that he needs to cause like i said the pain is miniscule at best) or the tattoo artist wont work on you, its a policy(at least in the u.s).

Re: Tattoo
Tattoos are nothing compared to kidney stones says swims sister. Swims sister has a lot of tats and piercings ALL OVER you get me? Swim means down below in her lady garden... and she let swim see it! That is just wrong on so many levels and possibly why swim has sexual problems as in not being able to cum. Though this maybe down to fluoxetine and opiates.
Swims sister has a tattoo on the sole of her left foot and reckons that is the most painful place to get one. Though swim knew a man who got his eyelids tattooed with eyes on them in prison. Apparently this takes ages and you have to put a teaspoon under the eyelid. It made him look like he was awake even when asleep. He said it was incase he was bummed by the gay prisoners in the night. Personally, being bummed in the night by rough sexy prisoners who "loved swim but liked to hurt swim a weeny bit too" would be one of the few highlights of prison life! When swim was at school swim was always the one dropping the soap in the showers. By the way, swim likes girls too and is probably more into girls but tattoos are great too and swim encourages you to get as many as you can afford but avoid the face initially. |

Re: Tattoo
By chance I've seen some tattoo topics on other forums, and MJ is used from time to time, just don't giggle and lie still.

Re: Tattoo
MJ for most people actually increases skin sensitivity so this isn't something I'd try. Thanks for the input though

Re: Tattoo
you can get something called Emla if its available there. put it on the area you're going to get inked and then wrap the area up with plastic wrap. it should be done an hour before you are about to be tattooed.

Re: Tattoo
I'm a tattoo artist and I do use Emla here in Singapore. I don't know where you can get it in Scotland but it does wonders. I had clients use them for full back pieces and didn't even move. I personally used it for my knee area and I didn't feel the outline at all.

Re: Tattoo
Really? Well that's definately good news. I'll ask around the various artists in my area if they happen to have this and if not, if they can obtain it. If not I could try boosting some from a dentist's office! :P And by I, I of course mean my friend 'I'.

Re: Tattoo
Many tatto artists in the UK will use emla , & more importantly will not touch a client if they believe they are "under the influence". For many a tattoo is a major thing, especially if it is something personal that is being done. Psychological preparation is paramount - learn breathing techniques & mild self-hypnosis &/or visualisation techniques. A Certain Mouse is also something of a needle-phobe, & has to prepare himself even when having blood taken - he always tells the practitioner this, & makes sure they allow him a minute or so to prepare & reach his "safe place", nicely removed from the situation. Make sure you have a meal beforehand, & have some sugary/starchy food to eat after to counter the physical shock.

Re: Tattoo
Good to know they will use Emla, very good to know. Would a benzo be a good idea to help with the anxiety?
I'm still wondering as to whether a little man would react better under the influence (but unbeknownst to the artist) if he had eaten a bowl of Special K for breakfast, if you get what I mean. I understand what you're saying is that sort of thing simply isn't needed and I can appreciate that, I just want to make said experience more comfortable otherwise it may not be possible to even get over the needle phobia and take the plunge at all! But I will certainly take into consideration the preparing my mind kinda thing, I guess we all already do that to some degree before most things anyway. Cheers |

Re: Tattoo
Best advice would be check these things with the tattoo artist, & get advice from the expert. & choose your artist well - get advice from people you know with tats, look at the artists portfolio, & don't go with someone who you don't feel comfortable with - remember, you'll be spending a few hours with this person, & will want to know that you can get on.
Taking hallucinogens at any level, even when experienced, will not help the monkey to relax in this situation. I can think of few things I'd rather not do. |

Re: Tattoo
I agree with Mickmouse there. I have tattooed clients on Benzs and SWIM's even taken Benzos before getting tattooed. I wouldn't recommend it cause it'll make SWIY very fidgety. SWIY's blood would become thinner too and this will affect SWIY's skin holding of ink and you would probably need a touch up. If SWIY really wants to take something to help yourself get over the phobia of needles, I would suggest that SWIY take small amounts of whatever it is SWIY has in mind. Maybe 1 or 2 pills of a Benz or small amounts of alcohol would do the trick. And please do tell your artist beforehand, it would make things less uncomfortable too, SWIY would probably feel much more relaxed after that and SWIY may not have to take anything either.

Re: Tattoo
So SWIM took the plunge and got a small tattoo on the wrist. He was far, far too anxious to do it sober, so this is what he took.
30mg Diazepam 10-20ml Methadone (can't remember exactly, he got the tattoo well over a month ago at least) He obtained the Methadone about 5 days prior to the inking to test out dosages and to see how effective it actually is for pain. It's a small but simple (and cheap) tattoo, it took around 30-40 minutes to complete and SWIM is very glad he went in dosed, he suffers from some social anxiety as it is. As for the pain? Well it's been said before, it's more of an annoyance than pain, however the methadone may be responsible for a great reduction in pain (according to SWIM's doctor, the area in which he got tattooed is one of the most painful places to get it) so the next time he gets tattooed, probably on the other wrist he will only use Diazepam for the anxiety, he'll report back if the methadone made much of a difference. If he gets his hands on a camera he will upload a pic on his profile, someone already requested he posted a pic. Anyway, he'd just like to thank everyone for the advice despite going against most of it! ![]() Edit: Oh by the way, the artist did not use Emla or any other numbing agent, even when asked! He was a friendly guy though and we managed to maintain a conversation (thanks to my friend Diazepam probably) all through out the process. Last edited by Horiz; 09-05-2009 at 23:06. Re: Tattoo
To tell you the truth, sure getting a tattoo, especially if it is in a sensitive spot can hurt. But getting one does not last very long, so SWIY shouldn't risk doing anything that might hurt the tattoo or his body in the long run, just so he won't be in pain for a little bit. Most pain medication would cause excessive bleeding, so just tell your friend to put up with the pain for a little bit, he'll be glad he did as soon as it's over with.

Re: Tattoo
This advice is coming a little too late for the OP.
But for future tattoo-getters... Don't drink alcohol to numb the pain. It might help with the pain but it won't help with the tattoo - since alcohol thins the blood. Thinner blood = more bleeding = fuzzy-edged lines, that never look crisp, and prematurely faded colors. Ink goes in as a liquid and as it sets, slowly binds together...as it's doing that the body's lymph-system is frantically trying to flush the ink out because it's a foreign element. Alcohol in the system will prolong the congealing-process, which allows the body more time to flush out the ink before it sets. Also - for anyone planning on getting laser tattoo removal... meth-use does something to the body's system that PREVENTS the lymphatic system from properly flushing the system, and the laser treatments will be MUCH less effective if a person's been using meth around the time of the treatment. Also - always be VERY careful with trying to remove any red colored ink (typically cosmetic ink) as some red inks use iron as a colorant and when it's struck by the laser, it oxidizes and turns black, permanently. Red inks should always have a test spot treated. |

Re: Tattoo
SWIM was worried that Methadone would thin his blood, which is why he took only a little.
Does anyone have any sources that show that Methadone or Diazepam thin the blood? |

Re: Tattoo
there is no significant blood thinning effect from benzodiazepines or opiates. and for Emla you should be able to obtain it in community pharmacies without a prescription (it was made a Pharmacy medicine in 2002) , unfortunately many do not stock it- if there is a large Boots branch around your area for example they would probably be able to supply it. But taking this will not be as pleasurable as physeptone or valium.. LOL

Re: Tattoo
Oh great I didn't know Emla could be had without prescription, and I just so happen to live within walking distance of a pretty decent sized Boots.
I think SWIM knows what cocktail he'll be using for his next ink
