Im not sure if anyone is aware of this, but there is a drug called tianeptine that acts as a serotonin reuptake enhancer. The main changes ssri medications or similiar medications do is make changes in protein synthesis, synaptic plasticity, and an increase specifically in BDNF in the hippocampus. Once this is done, symptoms of depression seem to disappear if its endogenous depression. But once the process is done, your already physically addicted to the ssri drug. Back to the forum. Tianeptine relieves symptoms as rapidly as ketamine did in that controlled study by ..... i cant remember. Its a tricyclic.
Its just funny because I see those stupid commercials where they tell people the chemicals are unbalanced and you need help. and here we find that decreasing serotonin can have just as much of a anti-depressent effect if not more. It makes the same brain changes and a few others. Much like ketamine. I will be doing research fall 2009 unless i do it on if muscley rats have more of a preference and increased binding for opiates than fat rats.
