Experiences - LSD induced psychosis? Boyfriend is in hospital after taking LSD

Swim is emotionally, physically, and mentally wrecked from what happened last night.

If others might remember, swim made a topic before about her friend going ape shit on LSD in downtown Toronto (911 had to be called etc)

Well ever since then swim has been really scared about being around people on high doses of acid because she was scared that she would have to see that again. Swims boyfriend told her he was going to be fine with 4 hits of acid and that he's taken more.

So, he did his 4 hits (at about 9 pm). They went to a rave and he just started getting wacko. Swim brought him outside to cool him down and he just kept getting worse. He was stuck in a mind loop and kept repeating everything and just being really dramatic/having sever mood swings. He ended up taking all his clothes off and swim had to keep him down (which was very hard, swim is all scraped up considering she is skinny 5'7 and he is a built 6'3). He got to the point where he got really really violent towards me and to himself. The cops and ambulance showed up and he resisted so they had to cuff him. Inside the car he just went crazy and kicked the back window out. They brought him to the hospital around 1 am.

Swim had to walk to the hospital and he was there, cuffed to the bed, covered in blankets, and had a mask over his head so he wouldn't spit on anyone. He was going NUTS. Nothing he said made sense, he kept repeating everything (like he would die for swim and that this is the last time he's ever doing this). After about 6 hours he got out of it and was just completely lost. He didn't know where he was or what happened. He was still tripping out but he was starting to make sense a little more. He was mentally handicapped though.

They had to bring him to court the morning of because in their books he was under house arrest, which he actually got off of 3 days ago but it wasn't updated. So Monday they're going to deal with this and he'll be free to go.

Honestly, Swim is just... screwed up right now. She doesn't know what to do with herself anymore. All she can think about is if hes okay. He still seemed screwed up at the court hearing, but i guess it was all the Valium they gave him + no sleep + end of an intense acid trip.

LSD, and other psychedelics, don't put anything there that isn't already there. Taking LSD (?) while knowing full well this is the kind of trip he's going on says this is what he wants. And SWIM is being an enabler (I hate using the AA playbook, but...) by being there for him when he does his psycho-striptease act and goes off. Perhaps that hospital should have found another bed.

SWIM better find out why she is doing this. And quick. And get the HELL AWAY from this crazy person. He shouldn't have SWIM there to adore him as he does the Charlie Manson Tango. He shouldn't have acid. He should be on Thorazine. And he should be in a hospital - for a nice, long vacation.

He's done acid over 400 times and has never had an experience like this. He was pretty back to normal just a little dazed and confused.

Come on. He's tripped 400 times on acid and still hasn't learned that a public place is not an appropriate venue for high doses? He's either an idiot or loves the risk - and either option is not good.

You watched your boyfriend take a dose that he KNEW was going to cause significant issues relating to the outside world, and then watched him freakout like everyone would expect. He was handcuffed to a hospital bed. He is using you and others to keep him safe on trips instead of using his own brain and proper setting to ensure his own safety. That is lazy, arrogant, and aggravating for SWIM that you don't appear to realize this.

What do you want SWIM to say? That it was just a bunk hit or 4, and that everyone freaks out while they're on house arrest and gets chained to a hospital bed?

He's an idiot. That's your answer.

Four doses of LSD at a rave and it's surprising that he went berserk? That is most certainly not an appropriate venue for such a dose (or substance in my tree's opinion).

There is definitely something amiss in this person's head and SWIY would do well to avoid him.

That kind of delirium sounds like psychosis for sure, but someone who has taken 400 hits in their lifetime and recovered from every experience psychologically intact should theoretically go completely back to normal given enough time (as seems to be the case).


This is should've been a major red flag to any experienced tripper though, someone who has done this 400 times should know that it's different each time and that they can't go neglecting set and setting just because they're a "pro". There's no such thing with LSD. It is a highly potent psychoactive drug capable of enducing innumerable types of experience.

Usually more experienced users' trips focus on the mind, specifically the sub- and unconscious mind. The more the person tends to ignore the psychological aspect of the trip, the deeper it seems to dig.

If SWIY is 18, SWIM would assume the boyfriend is roughly the same age. We can both do math - he's either taken acid at an obscenely high frequency (not a good idea) or he's bullshitting you (likely).

Use your head. He isn't nearly as cool or wise as you like to believe. If SWIM didn't know any better, SWIM would say he's a few years older than you and taking advantage of your naivite.

He is a veteran and he took 4 hits at a rave? Don't make me laugh. Acid is not a party drug to begin with, go with XtC if you are gonna do that, at least you'll be in control. If you do decide to do acid at public place that has TONS AND TONS OF PEOPLE, take at most half the doze that you would be comfortable taking in your own room.

Clearly, SWIY's boyfriend is an idiot and a cry baby. He shouldn't be trusted with psychedelics ever again because the man is clearly unstable. Either switch to another substance or stop taking drugs.

I would not recommend stealing or lying on acid ever, especially to people you care about. That trip will turn on you faster then you can say WHY !!!

These people give drugs a bad reputation. If you don't know if you can handle it, stay at home where the risk of you and others getting hurt is minimal. Go in your room, pull out a trip toy and chill there for 10 hours.

Honestly, Acid and Rave? Acid is not meant for this kind of events. There are other much better substances suited for raves. Everything has a time and a place. Things like mushrooms and acid should be done very very carefully in a non party setting because even after 400 trips, one thing you should know is that the second you say I know it like the back of my hand, acid says no you don't and slaps you in the face.

SWIY is glad he tried hallucinogens ONLY after he turned 20. At that point he already had a small brain to temper with. These guy is MAYBE 18, probably under. Until your own personality and mind develops, stay away from hallucinogens.

Oh, and one real big important point that needs to be made here is super muchos congratulations for being so very caring and loyal to your friend while he was in such dire straights. You are to be admired for doing all you could to protect, safeguard, guide and follow up on the wellbeing of someone special to you. It is so great that you were not hurt too seriously during the ordeal, well, with the exception of being "emotionally, physically, and mentally wrecked from what happened last night".

So, you've had a front row seat and witnessed how a psychedelic overdose can drive the mind overboard into total distortion. That's alot to take in. In a way, your mind went along for that crazy trip, too. And by telling us, SWICharolastra shared that crazy night. Thanks!

one thing swiC doesn't like about acid is you never know what the dose is on each tab. tabs have a tendency to be rather weak requiring multiple to get anything out of it at all and then some can be so strong that one is too much for many people. if you got used to taking multiple weak tabs and then unknowingly took four insane tabs even a very experienced tripped would flip out especially in such an intense evironment. this is why swiC prefers to stick to psychedelics that can be weighed out and hence exact dose known. swiC very rarely takes acid for this reason and on the odd occation doesn't risk taking that many. i don't know if this had anything to do with this particular situation though just swiC's throughts on the subject

Thats actually true. Last two times SWIY got his acid was in a breath mint bottle. First one was just right requiring 2 drops. Second one was a little stronger where 1 drop was not enough and 2 was a little overboard for those who haven't tried it before.

Its very hard to measure acid hence if you do a batch, do it at home to try its potency first. Then worst case scenario is you'll flip out, break some shit but you won't endanger others or yourself to the same extent is if you went outside.

i would have to agree that for an experienced user to trip to the point that they do things like that thinking it is a dream is probably not good. I would say that if they got drunk enough to do this, they would be placed in court ordered alcohol classes or something like that. I believe that it may be easier to have a bad experience on a psychadelic than it is on other varieties of drugs, but acting like that seems really disturbing. I don't care what drug he took, that is mad crazy that he resisted and all that shit due to a drug. that is a serious lack of judgement

Charolastra, AVOID taking hallucinogenics in public places. They are not meant for it. If you want good time, use other drugs like xtc, weed, whatever. Mushrooms and LSD, even for very experienced user in a public setting is dangerous. Its affects often unpredictable. To top it all off, they are not ment to have fun, they are ment to learn. If you take acid to expirience cool colors, discontinue use immideatelly until you can trully appreciate what this is or the next time, it will be YOU freaking out like crazy in a public place.

Honestly, 4 hits at a rave? He should have known better, you should have known better. Its a dissaster waiting to happen. Unless you are begging to be a statistic, knock it off. Anytime you are taking a hallucinogenic, there is ALWAYS a possibility for things to go awfully awfully wrong and you have to expect that.

My Mannatee has found that calming swimself right after ingesting a large dose by meditating always kept swim controlled, happy, and she always had a great time.
However, one time, when swim went to a psychadelic party, he didnt do so, and took 1/4 of a sheet and didnt calm down first, making the entire thing waywayway too fast. Swim says he doesnt remember most of it, and from what swim was told, he was going crazy. (apparently climbed up a giant tree and yelled at the neighbors that he could see them). Swim thought it was one of the funnest nights ever, but whenever swim's actions make others uncomfortable, it ruins the good nostalgic feeling of remembering that night.
But going psychotic from it, well, the effects of lsd on the brain can be damaging after having done enough. And if swiy uses too much, it will at the very least drastically change your mental state permanently.
The Mannatee encourages experimentation, but not over-indulgence.

4 hits at a rave is hardly a good idea. Anything could be in a hit these days, from 80 to 500 mics of acid (and 2000 mics will destroy anyone unprepared for it), to RCs like DO(x) compounds and various tryptamines. 4 hits of DOB will send anyone to outer space, and no, there's no such thing as being able to handle it because someone is "experienced" and "hardcore." Past a certain point, you don't handle the drug. It handles you. Theoretically speaking, of course, since no one here does anything like that.

So, taking 4 hits of random stuff just because someone has handled 4 hits before (or claims to) in a public setting is asking for it. Public settings are best avoided on LSD, and when someone has to take it in a public environment, it's essential to take a light and manageable dose - which is harder than it sounds when one doesn't know the dosage in a hit in the first place!

I'm not going to bash SWIY's SO since I don't know the circumstances. But, I hope he learns his lesson. If he came out of this OK, then he has another chance. Don't let him mess it up, if you intend to stay with him to begin with.

Oh, and stuff like this is hardly good for the survival of the local acid scene. After enough arrests, hospitalizations, scenes of public nudity and general madness, the Man starts thinking that there is a real problem with acid in the area, and before you know it, some local girl is forced to buy 1500 hits while wearing a wire, and a week later her body is found in a ditch somewhere shot 15 times.

Irresponsibility has a nasty way of having long-term consequences.

i don't know about the chick getting murdered bit, but yeah, things like this do bring attention to the local drug scene. Toxicology tests can usually tell the intoxicant, and repeat appearance of any drug on a criminal toxicology test in an area can lead to conclusions from law enforcement. It happens in cities/metropolitan areas throughout the world. people need to be careful or else they destroy things for those who use more respectfully

This wont be the best advice in the world but it worked for swims friends.
Swim once went to a house party and there was a guy there that swim didnt know but the guy knew a few of swims friends. He dropped 3 hits and went psycho exactly like swiys boyfriend, he stripped down to his bare ass, started threatening to stab swim and his friend and was running around the house smashing shit up (bottles, glasses, photo frames etc). Instead of calling emergency services and completely killing the party for everyone, swims friend punched the guy and knocked him out for a few mins, We then took him upstairs and locked him in a room, with someone that knew the guy going up regularly to sit with him and make sure he didnt do anything stupid. The punch must have made something in his brain click cos a couple of hours later he seemed to have calmed down alot and was invited back downstairs to rejoin the party but he refused, he was either scared or embarrassed.

Swim always says if he ever goes mad like that guy he would appreciate it if someone was to knock him out before he starts to strip.
Hitting someone who is on acid sounds like a terrible thing to do but i know swim would rather wake up in a house than chained to a hospital bed with the police to answer to
