Ketamine eye drops

SWIM was curious as to whether anyone has tried making ketamine eye drops and using them. SWIM has found a research paper on ketamine eye drops being using as anesthesia in patients whom suffer acute pain, so i would assume that it is rather safe.
Anyone's thoughts and such on the effectiveness in comparison to snorting would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Ketamine eye drops

Surely the eye drops would be at such dilution that they wouldn't sting (or at least too much). SWIM would far rather snort that put any drugs other than SWIM has been given by a real doctor in his eyes.

I guess if SWIY had a sealed vial of Ketamine then it would be safer but SWIM wouldn't try it over snorting as snorting always suffices for SWIM.

Interested to hear if anyone has any experience with Ketamine in the eye.

Re: Ketamine eye drops

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has experienced intraocular dosing. I can't imagine it having anymore efficacy or being easier or more convenient than other methods of administration. The eyes are sensitive, and improper manufacturing of eye-dropper doses may damage them.

The whole idea seems to be novelty. Again, though, I'd love to hear other's experiences. Also, what study were you reading?

Re: Ketamine eye drops

This is a very bad idea. Ketamine HCL is a very heavy molecule which has a proclivity to crystalize in tissue which is why it causes liver damage (cirrosis is scarred tissue). Crystal formation in the eye is very dangerous and leads to cataracts and blindness.

In additional the dose required is orders of magnitude above effective intraocular drugs such as LSD (100mcg vs 100mg = 1000x difference). This is just not a possible route.

I agree that intra ocular ketamine sounds interesting but impractical, but where did get the information that ketamine causes cirrhosis of the liver?

This research, for example, seems to suggest the opposite:

Quote:
Continuous ketamine drip anaesthesia was used in 151 patients with liver disease. The anaesthetic management is described and changes in serum enzymes and bilirubin are reported. Our results indicate that ketamine does not impair hepatacellular function.

Re: Ketamine eye drops

The widely published Hong Study linking heavy ketamine abuse to bladder and kidney dysfunction details:

http://www.reuters.com/article/healt...G8463320070621
Quote:
"One went into acute kidney failure and all of them had evidence of liver damage as well," the doctors from two public hospitals in Hong Kong wrote."
Actually I should have specified the kidney/bladder dysfunction as that is the more common association but all the eliminatory organs are affected. Mind you this is only with extremely heavy ketamine use as in grams daily for months or years so most studies or clinical use will never touch upon it.

Another relevant article is "Obstructive nephropathy and kidney injury associated with ketamine abuse." although it is not on pubmed.

I have read anecdotal reports that high dose vitamin D may help to prevent some of the bladder kidney damage. It would be very wise to take some kidney protective supplements with large doses for example:

Vitamin B-6—Helps prevent the formation of calcium oxalate.
Magnesium—Lowers urinary oxalate, which is a mineral salt.
Uva Ursi— Herbal support that benefits the entire urinary tract including the kidneys, bladder and urethra.
Parsley—Increases the flow of urine, thereby assisting the kidneys to flush the body of wastes.
Chlorella—Helps maintain an alkaline environment in which the kidneys thrive.
Cranberry extract/juice/raw cranberries - Prevents stone or crystal formation in said organs
Milk Thistle extract protects the liver and kidneys to a lesser extent.

Incidentally this same type of crystallization or calcification can occur in the brain and other organs so these precautions will go a lot further than just protecting your bladder.

Dive safe!
