IV Help: What's Up? (Red Skin / No rush)
Swim's first attempt at needles, to note. Never used one, but did months of reading on proper usage, with a refresher today, and have watched people use them PLENTY of times, paying close attention.
Swim obtained 2 1cc 30gauge needles today. He took 3 2mg generic hydromorphone pills, ground, dissolved in hot water, and filtered the solution with cotton. The resulting solution was clear and tasted like bitter opioids, and not the sweet, nasty filler. Swim ended up having to use both needles for the solution. Probably 4-5mg in one needle and 1-2mg in the other.
Swim first hit a nerve. Did not inject. Swim found a vein, pulled back, dark blood. Swim shot the 1-2mg one to test. 5 minutes later, nothing, zero effects, but Swim's pupils were HUGE like he was dexing. I attribute it to adrenaline. It was a vein, for sure. Second needle, 4-5mg. Swim put in the same area. Pulled back, blood. Got ready to shoot and saw a bubble in the syringe. No chances, Swim takes it out and get the bubble out. Swim reenters same area. Swim forgets to pull back this time, and shoots. Nothing. No effects, no rush. Swim's arm has about 3-4 inch red splotchy mark that has been there for 10+ minutes, looks like a allergic reaction or a eczema at the injection site, and this happened after the last shot. Started small and grew. for an accidental IM/SC shot? What is this? It looks bad. Is this normalSwim felt ZERO pain injecting, except for when he hit a nerve by accident. The process itself was smooth and went well.
It's been about 19 minutes, and Swim is feeling, at most, very mild effects, mostly just that "opiated" face feeling. No euphoria, VERY little sedation, which is funny. This is why Swim thinks IM/SC happened, delay of effects.
Any help would be GREAT, Swim's quite worried here, do not want to die or be in the hospital from a failed needle attempt, and be gentle, Swim's an IV newb. Swim wants to find this out before the shit really kicks in (if it does/will). Besides, this shit looks nuts! He can't be around family with this shit on his arm, they all think he's some massive addict anyways, and everyone who knows Swim knows he does not needle.
Swim has a pretty decent tolerance (100mg hydrocodone, 12mg rectal hydromorphone, and similar doses, and none of those include euphoria or nodding, unless Swim gets lucky. Swim has a nasty permanent tolerance. Not addicted to anything at all, to note. Swim is on rabeprazole sodium for gastritis, and might have 1mg or so lorazepam still in his system from the other day. Swim also was very concerned about overdosing from this 6mg dose, and made sure to inject the syringe with 1-2mg and use that to gauge potency by IV.
Oh, and 30gauge is great, don't even feel it, very small marks left behind too.
