Dilaudid and Cymbalta

SWIM was prescribed Cymbalta to go along with his Dilaudid for chronic pain. SWIM has noticed a much stronger effect when he takes his dilaudid than he's used to. It feels like he's taken 2 or 3 times his normal dose. Has anyone else experienced this with cymbalta or any other tricyclic antidepressent?

Re: Dilaudid and Cymbalta

Cymbalta's an SNRI. That's very fascinating what Swim reports. He's been under the influence of both an SNRI (a weaker one) and Hydromorphone before, and felt no more effects, except that it did have a VERY long after effect of a certain "opiated", in-the-face feeling, if Swiy knows what Swim means. A buzz feeling that was a pleasant thing the next day.

I guess Swiy is taking the Dil orally? Please provide more info, eg, dosages, tolerance/drug profile, etc, thanks.

Re: Dilaudid and Cymbalta

Yeah SWIM knows what your talking about with the "opiated feeling". SWIM doesnt have a huge tolerane but its def there. His normal does is 8mg of hydromorphone 3 times a day and its usually taken through the nose. Since SWIM has been on this dose a while it usually doesnt do much for him other than relieve some of his pain. SWIM just started the cymbalta yesterday and he took it around 9 with his normal dose of diluadid. About 20 min later SWIM felt like he had just done about 10mg IV. SWIMs entire body was numb and he was feeling very euphoric. SWIM did the same thing tonight and has gotten similar effects.

Re: Dilaudid and Cymbalta

Very interesting, make sure to look at other possible factors that could have caused it. 8mg 3 daily is a pretty decent dose. No tolerance, 4mg nasal had Swim floored for hours. With tolerance, 16mg rectal, that's a buzz now. Boo tolerance!
