What should swim get?
Okay. So it's about $50 to ship some coca leaves/tea/wine/whatever to where swim lives. He wants to make the most out of what he does buy. So far the coca tea and wine sound the most appealing. But there are these capsules full of coca powder and there is also a coca extract. What should swim go with? If he bought leaves, they'd all be dried up and crappy by the time he got them? Or does it matter?
And I did use the forum search. Maybe I missed something there? Btw. Swim's preference by the sounds of it would be cocawine. But he doesn't know how invigorating it would be for the cost, and if he should just buy tea instead? The capsules seemed nice (as he could use them at work and such secretly), but he doesn't know if the coca is as effective in a capsule? Or is it one of those things extracting into hot water or alcohol is going to make better? |

Re: What should swim get?
tea. coca wine can always be homemade. Leaves are more of a nuisance than teabags for chewing is swim's opinion, and coca leaf powder can always be capsuled if eating coca sounds fun.
the rest is not more than a novelty in swim's opinion. that said, it is still illegal to buy coca in any form, mate de coca, coca tea, leaves, extract and the rest. Coca leaves are specifically mentioned by the UN 1961 single convention on narcotics. b |

Re: What should swim get?
Thanks. i guess coca tea it is then. Swim still has to wait for a pre-employment drug screening before he can enjoy any though :'(
And it just sounds like at worst, US customs would say "You can't have this. We're going to scare the fuck out of you with a letter," to swim. But, anyway, out of curiosity, do the leaves become dried out and useless pretty quickly? Chewing up dry crunchy coca leaves doesn't sound appealing to swim. |

Re: What should swim get?
Technically, and I wish I had source to prove this, leaves that have been "extracted" of alkaloids still contain minute traces; I believe we even have a few threads around here regarding this; I remember one saying 1kg leaves --> 5gr cocaine.

Re: What should swim get?
Well. According to wikipedia, coca leaves contain .3-1.5% cocaine in them. So even if they weren't decocainized, assuming the leaves only had 1% cocaine in them, 1kg would only add up to 10 grams of cocaine correct?
Still waiting on an answer btw...does anybody know how long the leaves really retain their quality for chewing? |

Re: What should swim get?
Coca leaves are not illegal in the USA - regardless what this alleged UN thing says. Can you find a copy of the UN rule on this to post? Bongo has had clearly marked coca leaves go dancing through US Customs utterly untouched on numerous occaisions.
While you can easily find coca leaves, tea, etc - good luck finding anything that claims to be "de-cocaineized." And, says Bongo, kilogram bags of fresh leaves can be shipped in vacuum-sealed aluminum bags. Very nice and fresh. |

Re: What should swim get?
They are illegal...but most customs workers must not give a shit. I have read of a few people getting letters from them saying "we took your scheisse" and doing nothing else about it though. Amazingly, I think a lot of those people probably actually realize that the leaves themselves aren't that bad and it would take a lot of them to extract a good amount of cocaine. Absinthe is only legal in the US with up to 10mg/kg thujone content or something like that, yet people get through that all the time without any problems. Not to mention cannabis seeds. Too bad they aren't this lenient with actual marijuana and cocaine...Swim would be in heaven.

Re: What should swim get?
this has been already discussed.
Coca leaves are specifically mentioned. Yet an amend exists for "decocainized" coca leaves, which are virtually inexistant in the commercial market. This was most likely tailor made for the soft drink company as coca has little use as a flavouring agent in western cuisine... please also read http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43710 and http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...&highlight=FDA in which i quoted the FDA accomodations on decocainized coca. They are also present in the 1961 single convention. I'll add them to the legality of coca leaves thread. As the post below shows, coca leaves are illegal. Schedule II in the USA's scheduling, specifically mentioned in the 1961 convention which is a basis for legislation in the countries which have signed this convention. that said, it doesn't mean that there isn't a very blurry tolerance going on at the moment, regarding coca leaves- yet this does not make them technically legal- there are potential legal consequences far more complex than just having a package seized. And yes, decocainized coca leaves are yet to be found available commercially... Mate de coca, coca tea, is ground coca leaves, and therefore does fall under this legislation. The only catch is this "decocainisation", quite odd for a plant which has little uses as a flavor agent, except we know where....Thresholds of "cocaine" ( which is not the only active alkaloid in coca) allowed in coca leaf don't seem to be mentioned either (if anyone has this info, it would be useful). in conclusion, coca leaves, and coca tea, mate de coca, and coca leaf containing products are illegal. Available, benign, yes, perhaps even tolerated in some cases, yet still a legal risk. b Last edited by Benga; 30-10-2008 at 10:11. |

Re: What should swim get?
here's the extracted info on coca and coca leaves from the UN Convention, which has been mentioned a few times and still serves as a landmark for multilateral cooperation in drug regulation
( original, non edited text can be found here http://www.incb.org/incb/convention_1961.html ) Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961 of New York The Parties, Hereby agree as follows: Definitions Art. 1. - 1. Except where otherwise expressly indicated or where the context otherwise requires, the following definitions shall apply throughout the Convention: e. " Coca bush " means the plant of any species of the genus erythroxylon. f. " Coca leaf ' means the leaf of the coca bush except a leaf from which all ecgonine, cocaine and any other ecgonine alkaloids have been removed i. " Cultivation" means the cultivation of the opium poppy, coca bush or cannabis plant. j. " Drug" means any of the substances in Schedules I and II, whether natural or synthetic. t. "Production" means the separation of opium, coca leaves, cannabis and cannabis resin from the plants from which they are obtained. u. "Schedule I", "Schedule II", ..Schedule III" and "Schedule IV'' mean the correspondingly numbered list of drugs or preparations annexed to this Convention, as amended from time to time in accordance with article 3. Substances under control Schedule, and in addition thereto: a. A Party shall adopt any special measures of control which in its opinion are necessary having regard to the particularly dangerous properties of a drug so included; and b. A Party shall, if in its opinion the prevailing conditions in its country render it the most appropriate means of protecting the public health and welfare, prohibit the production, manufacture, export and import of, trade in, possession or use of any such drug except for amounts which may be necessary for medical and scientific research only, including clinical trials therewith to be conducted under or subject to the direct supervision and control of the Party. - 6. In addition to the measures of control applicable to all drugs in Schedule I, opium is subject to the provisions of article 19, paragraph I, subparagraph i, and of articles 21, 23 and 24, the coca leaf to those of articles 26 and 27 and cannabis to those of article 28. - 7. The opium poppy, the coca bush, the cannabis plant, poppy straw and cannabis leaves are subject to the control measures prescribed in article 19, paragraph 1, subparagraph e, article 20, paragraph 1, subparagraph g, article 21 and in articles 22 to 24; 22, 26 and 27; 22 and 28; 25; and 28, respectively. - 8. The Parties shall use their best endeavors to apply to substances which do not fall under this Convention, but which may be used in the illicit manufacture of drugs, such measures of supervision as may be practicable. Special provision applicable to cultivation Art. 22. - 1. Whenever the prevailing conditions in the country or a territory of a Party render the prohibition of the cultivation of the opium poppy, the coca bush or the cannabis plant the most suitable measure, in its opinion, for protecting the public health and welfare and preventing the diversion of drugs into the illicit traffic, the Party concerned shall prohibit cultivation. The coca bush and coca leaves Art. 26. - 1. If a Party permits the cultivation of the coca bush, it shall apply thereto and to coca leaves the system of controls as provided in article 23 respecting the control of the opium poppy, but as regards paragraph 2d of that article, the requirements imposed on the Agency therein referred to shall be only to take physical possession of the crops as soon as possible after the end of the harvest. - 2. The Parties shall so far as possible enforce the uprooting of all coca bushes which grow wild. They shall destroy the coca bushes if illegally cultivated. Additional provisions relating to coca leaves Art. 27. -1. The Parties may permit the use of coca leaves for the preparation of a flavoring agent, which shall not contain any alkaloids, and, to the extent necessary for such use, may permit the production, import, export, trade in and possession of such leaves. - 2. The Parties shall furnish separately estimates (article 19) and statistical information (article 20) in respect of coca leaves for preparation of the flavoring agent, except to the extent that the same coca leaves are used for the extraction of alkaloids and the flavoring agent, and so explained in the estimates and statistical information. Transifional reservations Art. 49. - 1. A Party may at the time of signature, ratification or accession reserve the right to permit temporarily in any one of its territories: c. Coca leaf chewing; - 2. The reservations under paragraph I shall be subject to the following restrictions: e. Coca leaf chewing must be abolished within twenty-five years from the coming into force of this Convention as provided in paragraph 1 of article 41. ------------------------------------------ For the USA, here is the specific mention of coca leaves, with the DEA number, in the list of controled substances : Schedule II Coca Leaves DEA number : 9040 Schedule : II Narc : Y --------------------------------------------------------- here's some info on the north-american F.D.A. accomodations : from a US FDA site : http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/script...cfm?fr=1308.12 PART 1308 -- SCHEDULES OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES Schedules Sec. 1308.12 Schedule II. The list also includes selected pesticide chemicals from 40 CFR 180 for which EPA has set tolerances in food. FDA enforces those tolerances. Within the space available, the Food Additives Status List includes use limitations and permitted tolerances for each additive. For complete information on its use limitations, refer to the specific regulation for each substance. New regulations and revisions are published in current issues of the Federal Register as promulgated. Also refer to the CFSAN website on Food Additives and Premarket Approval to review several FDA databases of additive categories.
