USA - LSD and conspiracy to overthrow the government?

one of swims friends said that if one were to possess a sufficient quantity of lsd that one could be charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government. is this true? swim thinks it isnt, but his friend is certain it is. o and this refers to the U.S. Government by the way.

Swim has heard this rumor as well but seen no documentation albiet he hasn't investigated it either.

Swim heard a group of people in Chicago during the 68' democratic convention were going to dose Chicago's water supply, but the FBI stopped them.

Anyone have any info on this?

Well its extremely likely that government will lose they grip on power and control if the people open their eyes, see the truth, reverse the brain washing, unite, become one, embrace free love and value more spiritual principles over material matters, ego, wealth etc etc we wont have much need of a government, it will be more like an eco friendly tribal village systems sprouting up where people share their knowledge and skills for the greater good.

I sincerely doubt that. I'm fairly sure it is the combination the of mental attitudes that incline one towards psychedelics and their help in learning the things that these people wanted to learn anyway that makes someone open their eyes, disregard wealth etc. Simply dosing a bunch of people without their knowledge would just result in hundreds of traffic accidents and hundreds institutionalised.

EDIT: sorry, I mixed your post together with the one before it in my head and somehow thought you said that would have been a good thing. Making my argument rather irrelevant, but oh well.

The Youth International Party, and specifically "The Chicago Seven", are the people who were supposedly going to dose Chicago in 68. Apparently it was a joke that got out of hand and was leaked to the FBI by an informant posing as a photographer within the group the press labeled "the chicago seven", whose most notable members were Abbie Hoffmann and Jerry Ruben.

Over the years the story has gotten mixed up and tossed around so much that not even the original members of the chicago seven can remember what actually happened. Some people say it was a joke that got out of hand and some say that it was one step away from happening and everything in between. Whatever the case, this is probably where LSD gained its association with tyranny.

Certainly in a court of law LSD alone, no matter the quantity, would not be enough to charge someone with tyranny or conspiracy to overthrow the government. Under the right circumstances, however, it could be argued in such a court that a person who is inclined toward tyrannical or conspirital activities could use large quantities of LSD to that end.


Having large amounts of cyanide or arsenic, for example, could be used for such means as well (and much more effectively) but possession of those substances does not imply conspiracy or tyranny. I'd say all this really goes back to the testing of LSD as a biological weapon during the cold war: it's the only drug that was tested so extensively in that capacity.

there is no federal charge called conspiracy to overthrow the gov't. there really isn't anything close. Conspiracy against the united states to ______ is the closest thing. no any possesion of LSD does not fit into this category.
