Can you get any serious health problems from smoking.

swim is just wondering if anyone has ever heard a case of emphusima, heart damage, or lung problems from long time tokers.

swim smokes once every other day or every few days and is wondering if it is more damaging than he thinks.

swIm knows about the anti cancer properties of thc but is wondering about everything else.

swim also owns a box vaporizer but it can take alot of time and effort to use .

Certainly. "Toking" carries all the same risks that smoking cigarettes do and more because "tokes" are said to have more carcinogens in them than regular tobacco does and they don't have filters.
No it doesn't. For one thing, it doesn't cause cancer:

Haven't research the emphysema, it might be a real threat.

SWIM does not know for certain nor is he a licensed health care provider but he does have common sense. And common sense tells him that ANY kind of smoke when inhaled can not be good for you. Whether tobacco, cannabis, plastic, wood, or an ABBA album collection goes up in flames, it would be safe to assume that inhaling the smoke would not be a wise decision.

No doctor will advise that you inhale the crude combustion from the cannabis plant to achieve the desired effects. Vaporisers are far safer, but also in turn offer dry smoke/vapor (the lower cost vapes offer a vapor mixed with smoke), while reducing the potency of smoke if one is worried about health it would be ideal to filter the vapor through water so it will not be so dry. Also the number one problem with cannabis smoke, is the heat on the trachea and lungs.

Re: Can you get any serious health problems from smoking.

SWIM is a long time daily smoker--for more than a decade--and I am sure there is some risk. SWIM smokes several times a day and coughs far worse when tokin' up as opposed to smoking cigarettes. However SWIM can not seem to figure why its the tobacco that makes him cough up a bunch of nasty shit and the herb just makes him salivate more.

SWIM didn't start having lung problems like he does now until he started smoking cigarettes--he smoked bud for close to 8 years before starting tobacco...it could be the bud just makes him cough more because of the heat of the smoke...

Smoking cannabis has kind of a peculiar effect, the chemicals in it possess a quality that when smoked it will agitate the lungs and cause you to cough up alot of the tar and bad stuff in it when tobacco doesn't have this quality, ill take a second to try and find a article to back my claim and possibly explain it better.

Most vaporizers deliver dry vapor: that is vapor that is extracted and delivered dry. Usually a cooling of the vapor takes place between the point of extraction and the point of delivery, but the dry warm nature of this kind of vapor will often irritate the throat and upper tracheo bronchial tree. It must be remembered that at least in terms of Cannabis, heat is the primary culprit leading to damage of the tracheo-bronchial tree whether smoking or vaporizing. Cannabis smoke contains tars and noxious gases known to be harmful not present in accurately extracted vapor; however, THC is a powerful expectorant and will cause the tars consumed to be subsequently coughed up (unlike nicotine which does not have a medicinal expectorant quality). Vaporizers or vaporization systems that feature rapid extraction and delivery combined with water / ice cooling and conditioning of the vapor deliver the best of all: cleaner more concentrated and aromatic inhalations of vapor that is cooled and moisturized for maximized bio-activity and minimized impact.

I wanna add this so ill let the double post crap do it, i thought it was pretty cool and something i also didn't know.

A mucolytic agent is any agent which dissolves thick mucus usually used to help relieve respiratory difficulties. (hydrolyzing glycosaminoglycans: tending to break down/lower the viscosity of mucin-containing body secretions/components). The viscosity of mucous secretions in the lungs is dependent upon the concentrations of mucoprotein, the presence of disulfide bonds between these macromolecules and DNA.
Mucolytics: N-acetylcysteine: an aerosolized mucolytic agent often used as adjunctive therapy for pulmonary complications of cystic fibrosis (CF) in combination with vigorous chest physiotherapy. N-acetylcysteine acts to split the sulfide bonds in the macromolecules thereby decreasing viscosity, allowing for removal by normal chest physiology. The action of N-acetylcysteine is pH dependent. Mucolytic action is significant at ranges of pH 7-9.(1)

chukbzle is learning how to SWIM.
Re: Can you get any serious health problems from smoking.

swim agrees that its WAY worse than people act .swim gets sick around a campfire too long or massive firework displays and clubs that have so cigarette smoke WELL ABOVE the legal limit of cancerous particles per sq in(which is pretty much most were found to have up to over 100x the legal limit!! how disgusting sry i know ciggs are off topic a lil) But definately it is hazardous .Swim thinks most ppl think if they don't feel damage its not there or building.and they hear its SAFER.. A 357 magnum is safer to get hit by than a 12gauge shotgun but even though a shot gun would blow a Huge hole that is gonna make life miserable no matter where you get hit by it,but still even though if it didn't kill swim itd hurt way less and MAYBE walk out with minor damage ,swim wouldn't lay in the hospital if the 357 did bad damage thinking "that was safer at least" and even if only 1% of ppl got any disease of any type what would that matter if u turn out to be part of the 1% instead of th 99%? swim likes to smoke but wants to quit cuz hes just due for a break always good with any psychoactive substance to clear your body and DEF your receptors get em in practice to work with "stimulation" swim wishes they made like a catalytic converter for smokin because it would charge the smoke into healthier smoke like how a cat reacts with platinum and all other insides of those swim wonders if you could tailor on for smokin?

Also swim does not smoke cigarettes but like green but most ppl he knows smoke both ,and if a person dies from lung problem how can it be determined so much as if theyre laid together ,swim has seen low low numbers like almost unbeleivable # of deaths from marijuana and then sees high number (high for what it is ,not super high like meth)but swim thinks sometimes ppl could have heart attacks and cant really blame it unless u prove beyond a shadowy doubt that they were linked --just swims thoughts and not against it

Re: Can you get any serious health problems from smoking.

Tobacco is more of a deceptive beast. Cigarettes smoke smoothly but bring about an entire plethora of health problems over time. Cannabis smoke can cause one to cough but at least a defence mechanism is in action where the throat and lungs don't bare the brunt as harshly in the long run. As purplehaze said, no doctor would promote the inhalation of any smoke but cannabis has a remarkable track record and might very well be one of the safest smokable substances in existence.

Re: Can you get any serious health problems from smoking.

Eating all that chocolate can't be good for one's teeth.

Seriously, though, because it's an illegal drug and the health effects on society are likely to be over a long period of time (i.e. won't make your teeth fall out in a couple of years), and are therefore less apparent, it's very hard to find studies with consistent and accurate trends from around different parts of the globe. Not all people studied will be honest about how much they use, a large percentage of them will also drink and/or smoke tobacco, only certain types of people will admit to using etc... No one really knows if there are any casual links between smoking weed and health conditions.

As one SWIMmer said, though, common sense tells you that breathing in smoke probably isn't that great for you. Chronic (excuse the pun) exposure to any sort of smoke can result in permanent scarring of the lung tissue and build-up of foreign material inside the lungs is likely to result in decreased lung capacity.
