Most efficient use of methylphenidate

Swim finds that methylphenidate has many benefits on him but not in any conventional sense. It does not stimulate swim it tranquilizes him instead and he gets fairly lazy. For this reason he doesn't take it in the mornings before going to college because it makes him lazy and kinda antisocial.

Instead he takes it after his dinner when he gets home and if he has any of those written assignments for the week he'll do every single one of them then and there and doesn't get bored doing them. He does them well too I should add.

The next morning swim is usually feels great and has lots of energy and is in the right mindset to learn. This is how swim uses his Ritalin because it seems to work well.

On the other hand if swim decides to spend the whole day learning and starts taking Ritalin after his breakfast by about 6PM he's tired, has a headache, feels like crap and can't learn anything. Swim can't take Ritalin to stay up and study. Just doesn't work for him.

Drugs affect everyone differently. Anyone else here similarly effected by Ritalin?

Re: Most efficient use of methylphenidate

Swim was recently prescribed Ritalin IR and found it utmost useless
He was told too take up to 20mg, twice a day and did not get any benefits from it.

Only thing is he gets a pleasent come on after about en hour, but after ~20-30 min he can feel it starting to go away. This peak does nothing to help for his ADD tho, but it does feels pretty nice for a short while.

After two weeks he also said he felt like absolute shit in the morning before he took his med. Very insecure, almost afraid, and then after taking the med he did feel very strange and alien. He stoped taking it and hope to try out dex instead soon.

Re: Most efficient use of methylphenidate

Dex will mostly likely work for swiy. Swim snorts the Ritalin because taking it orally does nothing for him. Its a strange drug alright sometimes when swim takes it he gets this nervous worried feeling for no reason at all. He knows he has nothing at all to worry about but the feeling still comes on. It doesn't last long though its only usually when the Ritalin first kicks in.

Re: Most efficient use of methylphenidate

my friend says taking ritalin strictly as prescribed, really doesn't work enough to justify going through all the trouble of taking or getting it, but it works just enough to not want to stop taking it.. Its weird..

So he plays with it. he'll snort about 3 or 4, 20mg ER pills in an evening and play video games and chat and shit. He of course takes one every morning, 20mg ER. But usually, by the evening, hes off to the races with it (until the prescription runs out and he has to wait another 2 weeks before he can call his Dr. for a re-fill, without looking suspicious..)
He says taking it regularly does make him more aware, and the tasks that he normally stresses about are no longer over-whelming, and everything can be managed easily thorought each day. But in the back ground, he says there are these new negative feelings and views of everything and everyone.
He finds himself thinking horrible thoughts about everyone, including himself. Nothing too crazy like he is going to kill or hurt someone, but every person on the street just gets negatively anylized to hell in his mind, including himself. This is wearing him down I believe. Plus, with the short spurts of depression he sometimes goes through with it, hes not sure how he feels about this Med..

He does have trouble getting to sleep as well, but for some reason he is never tired in the morning.
anyone else?

Re: Most efficient use of methylphenidate

Swim couldn't agree with swiys friend more. Thats how it is for swim too. Works just enough for him to appreciate having it. Swim usually ends up with a week to 2 weeks before his next refill too.

Ritalin does many productive things for swim. For example lets say he's sober he's completely calm about everything and even though he has tests coming up he couldn't care less he just thinks "ah I'll study at the last minute" but once he gets a bit of Ritalin in him he starts to take it all seriously and drives himself to get mad amounts of studying done and even when he's studied more than he has to he's still not satisfied last test he did he managed to get 95% because like a lunatic he studied every single thing that they'd covered in the class even though he knew he would have a choice of which areas to answer on his test since the tests usually say "answer 5 out of the 8 following questions".

Now swim probably could do this without Ritalin but the question is would he?

Same thing with swim he has trouble getting to sleep at night but wakes up the next morning feeling refreshed and full of energy even if he only got 5 hours sleep.

About those negative feelings towards everyone don't know if swim can fully relate but what does happen is the Ritalin makes him insanely irritable and people asking him questions or doing anything to divert his attention drives him into a near violent rage. He talks harshly to people that don't deserve sometimes for asking him too many questions or sometimes if someone asks him a question that doesn't really need to be answered they're just doing it to start a conversation swim will get angry but its hypocritical cuz swim does that kinda stuff all the time to start conversations.

Re: Most efficient use of methylphenidate

swim would probably be the exact same way as swiy, regarding the conversations and the short, abrasive responses from being annoyed or bothered by someone, but he takes hydrocodone and a few other things daily for arthritis. I think these other things in his system take the edge off a bit more while on ritalin, so he just thinks about those negative things, but doesn't act on them as much as swiy may. (if swiy is not on any downers as well). But I bet its basically the same side effect the 2 are having.
Swim use to take prednisone daily for his arthritis. Now that stuff just made him an out-right a$$hole. He dropped that stuff after losing his gf over it, and went with more mellow things for the pain.
