Have a break, have a Ket trip

I don't know if anyone has ever come accross this information before, although I find it very well written and VERY informative!

Taken from http://www.fast-times.co.nz

PLEASE NOTE: It is a New Zealand website so obviously the laws and prices etc are a little different but the general drug info is the sames.

You can find a lot more interesting information at http://www.fast-times.co.nz/index.html

What is it?

Ketamine is a totally legit anaesthetic. Discovered in 1961 by a US university researcher, its first practical use was in the Vietnam War as an easy-to-use painkiller for when Billy Bob and his buddies got their asses shot off. Since then, it has been used in medicine all over the world as it's safe enough to use on children and oldies. Vets also use it, that's why Ketamine is sometimes called horse.
K has become a popular recreational drug because at smaller than medical doses, it gives a trippy, hallucinogenic effect. It does this by shutting down the brain's sensory connection to the body (see pharmacology 101). Unable to see or hear or feel, your brain isn't even aware it's in your body. It gets a wee bit fucked off about this, so creates its very own world, patched together from your memories, dreams and fantasies. Of course Ketamine doesn't knock you out entirely; it leaves your respiratory and circulatory functions intact. That means your heart and lungs keep you alive, even though you look and act like something out of a cheap zombie movie.
Appearance wise, the most common form of K is a smooth white powder which you snort. Ketamine also comes as a liquid. Sold in small bottles, it often has a brand name like Ketavet or Ketalar. Although some Ket heads shoot this straight into their veins, we strongly advise against it. Aside from the risks of intravenous drug use, you can fall unconscious before you even get the needle out of your vein. If you really do want to try this, inject a muscle instead (see more about this in our methods section). Making powder from liquid is easy; just put it in an microwave-safe dish and nuke on the lowest setting.
Ketamine is a restricted drug under New Zealand's Medicines Act. That means that unless you have a prescription for it (um, I don't think so), you are breaking the law by possessing, selling or giving it to your friends. As usual, quality and street prices vary, but it can normally be bought for anywhere between $[edit] and $[edit] a gram, or $[edit] to $[edit] for a 10ml ampule.

How does it feel?

Important: Ketamine is a very different drug depending on how much you take, and whether you snort, drink or inject it.
Snorted Ketamine normally takes about 10-20 minutes to kick in. At low doses, such as one small line, it brings on a nice, slightly trippy buzz, a little bit like ecstasy. Your sense of taste and smell will seem to decrease while your visual perception and sense of touch will increase (mmm, touchy feelies).
Snort a couple of fat lines however, and you won't feel like dancing, let alone be able to. Everything starts to happen in slow motion; you'll feel disconnected from your surroundings, have trouble walking, and in less than ten minutes might hardly be able to shift yourself at all. At the peak, you may fall into a trance state, lose track of time, experience visions, hallucinate or have conversations with spirits, aliens or Obi Wan Kenobi. Try telling someone you just met the Jedi Master, and the only thing to come out of your mouth will sound like a load of Wookie shit.
Get about four decent-sized lines up your nose and you'll end up in the legendary 'K hole'. You'll basically just lie there, staring at the ceiling going "whoa". In this state some people have insights about the meaning of life. We're talking out-of-body and near-death experiences here. Other people have a freak out. Take more than about five lines at once, and you'll fall completely unconscious (ill-advised, and a complete waste of perfectly good drugs).
Swallowing Ketamine has different effects because your liver turns it into norketamine. This drug has greater numbing, sedating and pain-killing effects so will make you even more of a 'tard. Psychedelic effects come on slower, with the whole experience lasting up to 4 hours.
No prizes for guessing that intravenously injected Ketamine kicks in straight away, is a shit load more powerful, and ends a lot faster (after just 10 minutes). Again, we advise against intravenously injecting Ketamine. An intramuscular injection takes effect in 2-4 minutes and normally last up to an hour. It's not as madly intense, gives you a good couple of minutes to get ready for the trip, and lasts a lot longer.

Comedown

With snorted Ketamine, duration is not affected by dose. That means no matter how many lines you take, it won't last more than 90 minutes. However, if you use K a lot you will build up tolerance and your trips will be shorter and less interesting.
While the effects wear off pretty quickly, you will probably feel a bit wiped out, achy, and not up for anything too loud or complicated. If you've taken a large dose, you can be disorientated or a bit shell-shocked, kinda like when you wake up after surgery. On the other hand, many people feel energized after Ketamine and have a strong urge to dance or have a stretch.

Problems

With over 30 years of FDA approved use, Ketamine is pretty safe buzz compared with most other drugs. A self-administered overdose is nearly impossible as you will pass out well before it kills you, and there is no evidence it creates withdrawal symptoms, even in chronic users. Doctors have done loads of human clinical trials and its long and short term effects are well documented and understood. Remember though, recreational use is way more random than controlled medical use. Some users may feel disoriented, nauseous, or lose their lunch. Recent tests also indicate it can have a negative effect on short term memory.
Mentally, K can cause problems: Spending all that time in your own head might not be a good idea if you are unhappy. As with all drugs, negative thoughts can be amplified and cause you to freak out (see bad trips). We advise staying away from K unless you are pretty much okay with the way your life is at the moment.
Using Ketamine on a regular basis can make you think that life is a movie and you're the main character in it. Totally unconnected events can seem like some kind of organised plan or scheme that's all about you. Be careful with this, you could become quite ego-centric or paranoid.

Addiction

Ketamine is not physically addictive, but thanks to its effects and manageable duration, can be extremely habit forming. Not that staying on the K will do you much good; tolerance rises quickly with frequent use and lasts for a few days. That means if you use it regularly you'll need bigger and bigger doses to get a buzz. Chronic users - mainly those who inject - develop something close to permanent tolerance after a few months. That means they no longer get the fun. Like, ever again.

Mixing

Like all anaesthetics, Ketamine is not a good mixer. But then why would you want to? At anything above a small line, Ketamine is so powerful and complete that using it with any other drug only detracts from the experience. But hey, if you still want to know what to expect, go to our mixing section.

Tips for using more safely

If you are new to K, or just want to be a bit sensible, check out these main points. These are just the basics though; if you skipped straight to this bit you should go back fully read this whole article and visit our links page to search our more K info.
  • Remember, K's effects are very different depending on the dose. Out and about, it's a good idea to keep you usage really light. One popular way to use K is to take wee 'bumps' (like tiny lines) to cushion your comedown.
  • Any larger dose and leaving the house is a bad idea. For one, you'll be as unco' as a pissed bastard (trying to get across K Road on K is one seriously bad idea) and two, it's pretty much an inner experience. Loud people in loud clothes listening to loud music is just not going to be your thing.
  • If you want to stay at home and get well and truly out of it, it's best to drink Ketamine (for one, it's quite hard to actually get enough powder up your nose to do the job).
  • To do this more safely, add the powder to about a centimetre of hot water. Mix it around and top up with an acidic drink (orange juice is best).
  • Use OJ with liquid K too; not only does it taste gross on its own, it's very harsh on your stomach and can make you puke.
  • To prevent hassles (and help you get to the bathroom), it's a good idea to get a straight friend to stick around while you trip.
  • Stub out ciggies, blunts, candles or anything else that could get knocked over and burn your house down with you it in.
  • Eat no less than three hours beforehand (this is to avoid blowing chunks).
  • Do not even think about trying to eat, drive, play with your dad's cordless drill, or anything more complex than a TV remote. In fact, be careful doing anything the slightest bit risky, as you could injure yourself without even realising it.

Yeh, fairly well written. The informality gives it a user-friendly touch.

Be better if its mixing section was better.
