Purity - URGENT!!! My poppy seed tea is JET BLACK; What is this all about???

I Would call myself a pretty experienced drinker of poppy seed tea. I've been doing it for about a year.... But tonight, after i got home from my regular visit to the health food store for my regular couple pounds of poppy seeds, i noticed something VERY irregular in my experience: The tea i just brewed had turned JET BLACK almost as if there was ink in the water.. I don't know what this is.. if anyone has experienced the same thing or knows about this please post.....

SWIM has experienced "Dark" tea but never jet black.SWIM also finds that if his tea is a darker batch he will filter again for good measure, but in SWIM's oppinion it will almost always be stronger if it's darker.Please post the results,stay safe and Good Luck!!

Yes, SWIM would partly agree with the above post. In SWIM's experience, the darker it is the stronger it is. Though SWIM is more used to tea made with pods rather than seeds.

How does the tea taste/smell compare as opposed to what Swim normally has?

It tastes kind of artificial mabey slightly paint-like; it tasted stronger than normal pst. the water is a murcky black coulor seconds after the seeds are added and shaken vigorously.
SWIM didn't drink it because it was so unusual. SWIM took a sip though...
oh yeah, and it also smelled a bit different

Screw it.Dump the seeds and have SWIM get a new batch.After all it's only a few bucks,better safe than sorry.

Yeah, poppy seed tea gets you high.. Its no heroin; but its stonger than vicoden. A couple big glasses of tea will get you feeling very, very good.

Anyway; the isn't jet black like i said. The tea is very, very, dark and kind of greenish and the usual brownish yellowish coulor. It isnt the normal pale yellow/reddish/brownish couler like all the other tea I've drank every night for about 3 months. I think the grocery store caught on to me, talked to some people and those people said: "yeah, were hearing increasing reports of that; here just put this black stuff in the seeds and those drug heads wont want to drink it".. Thats what i think happened. I'm still not drinking it though... Hehe, my friend did drank a bunch of that black tea though... But i said "fuck that, thats not the way poppy seed tea is supposed to look".......... no ones had a similar experience?...... I'm the first?

Yeah Poppy Tea will get SWIM feeling pretty darn good with a glass of about 3 good size pods. SWIM even drank a little amount before class one time, and it went well. Compared to vicodin, SWIM likes it a lot better, because the body high is much more potent.

could someone tell SWIM doseage levels for poppy seed tea please like what a low dose a med dose a high dose and what you normally use. how much water how long you need to boil and how does it taste if bad anything you would recommend to help the taste thanks peace

There is no standard dosing for PST. Seeds are not consistent in potency and can vary widely. Nobody has been drinking tea from an organic American company and finds a half pound of seeds in 2 quarts of water will produce between 2-5 servings. When the same mixture was tried with some Polish imported seeds, the entire resulting mixture was consumed with only mild effects.

When ever you brew a new batch, no matter how many times you have done it before, test it carefully. It is pretty easy to OD on this stuff, especially if you've been working with weak seeds and suddenly get a potent batch. Nobody's seen reports of people using a pound plus in a single dose and is rather sure is they had tried that with some of the seeds they've had, they wouldn't be typing right now.

That being said, start with 1/2 pound in 2 quarts with lime, ginger, and sugar, then pour a small glass and try it out. Wait a bit and see what happens, if you want more you can always drink more, but once it goes down, you can't wish it hadn't.

Thats helpful. but this tea isn't that much more potent.. and looks really weird... i was just wondering if the government caught on and started to put additives in the seeds to discoulor them and discourage people from making them into tea. cause the tea is pretty raounchy and not even that great... tastes like ink

SWIM just had an IDENTICAL experience as Dr. Mario - purchased seeds from a Middle Eastern grocery store and was shocked to see the color of the tea when strained! The best color comparison SWIM can think of is of grape Kool-Aid. SWIM has been using this grocery for years and ALWAYS has had the "normal" yellow-brownish colored finished product. Anyways, SWIM never heard a definitive answer to why or what causes this abnormality but wants to know! Is it more potent, less potent, the same, poisonous???

Crawfish: Read over all the posts in this thread... now the same "is it poisonous" question was asked, so why isn't there an answer? Because frankly we no one knows. Look this is an exploratory, user driven science. We don't have hot lines at universities to call up and ask these sort of questions, we don't have huge funded labs to test these chemicals.

This is a risky game, it always has been, there's a lot we simply don't know about the subjects discussed here. Some folks are willing to chance it, willing to drink down the bottle marked "drink me" and see what happens. If you're not one of those people, then go find a different hobby.

So tell us, is it more potent? Does it make you sick? Do you value living too much to risk ending it all in the name of science?

Well...........in the name of science SWIM slowly slipped the "grape kool-aid) PST. No effects whatsover. Swim did find some possible answers to this phenomenon through a multitude of searches on the:

1) The seeds were originally white and dyed black to attract customers to the classic black seed used in baking and such.

2) AND FAR LESS LIKELY - you guessed it - covert attempt by adding a coating of some sort or nullifies the alkaloid covered seeds by the Man.

SO....case one is more plausible to SWIM because SWIM usually get his seeds from a Lebanese grocery who has always had great seeds. However, the second to last time SWIM inquired as to whether they had any poppy seeds. The Lebanese shop-owner sadly shook her head and said "it was more difficult to get bulk qualities of seeds because people were making tea out of it." I feigned a look of disbilef and left. SWIM came back and asked a different employee about their seed avaliability and was asked how much SWIM needed - 1.5 lbs please. Seeds were fresh and had bits of poppy straw in them (always a good indicator in my book) SWIM got home and followed his tried and true recipe and about shit my pants when I saw the color of the tea. I drank the entire count of liquid 1.25L within 3 hours so keep an eye out for similar experiences

Almost correct.
There is no coating that nullifies Opiates. If they attempt to do that it is usually just through . . SWIyou guessed it, washing.

It is only one of two things.

1] Black food dye on immature seeds. (not likely but it has been done)
2] Pre-roasted seeds (This is quite commonly done and the black one is experiencing would be ash.)
