Will Tramadol get me through??

Hello,

I would like to begin by saying this issue is very serious for me. I , like a lot of you, never imagined getting into this type of situation, but here I am.

As a result of a work-comp ( Low Back ) injury which required (4) spinal fusion operations over a 4-year period starting in 2003, I am now completely dependant on Norco to get through the day. At the highest point i was taking 8 or 9 ( 10/325 ) tablets per day and it got to the point where it seemed as if my "withdrawl" symptoms were beginning every 2 or 3 hours. I have a Very Low Tolerance for any form of discomfort so at the first sign of withdrawl I would immediatly shovel in 2 norco tabs to maintain my comfort level and it quickly became apparent that only taking 1 tablet had no effect. This went on until I was allowed to enter a "Functional Restoration Program" that my work-comp paid for. I began to improve with the help of clonidine and lexapro and the simple fact that I had some place to be everyday for 6 hours , I was able to cut my norco intake down to 4 or 5 tabs per day in a 4 week period.

Then seemingly out of no-where, the friendly people at the FRP decided that I should be completely off the norco by this point and said that I could not continue in the program if I was going to continue to take the norco. Even though I was promised at the beginning of the program that " This is not about getting you off the med's completely but about improving your quality of life and hopefully lowering or eliminating your need for the meds in the process " The program was supposed to take 8 full weeks. So, I tried the "cold turkey" method and lasted 33 1/2 hours until I was so miserable I was contemplating suicide. By the 34th hour I had scarffed down 3 norco's and was feeling 1000% better. Of course I also felt sad that I was not strong enough to "stick it out". I called my "friends" at the FRP to tell them of my failure. The response I got was " Thats OK : ) Buddy , well just keep filling your RX every month but you cannot continue in the program!!! "

I was confused and angered by this, it seemed they were setting me up to fail and to fall right back into using higher quantities of the norco, which is exactly what happened. I quickly got back up to 7 - 8 - 9 tabs a day, There was one major problem now, previously they were giving me 180 tabs per month actually it was more like 180 tabs every 21 or 22 days or so and they had absolutely NO problem refilling my RX in this time frame. After the 4 week (FRP) attempt and failure the head doctor adjusted my RX to 120 tabs per month. When I went in to see him to talk about the fact that 120 tabs were lasting me 18 to 19 days at best he hit me with " Sorry, we do not refill early if you run out " WTF????? They had no problem giving me enough to dig myself into this hole before the program and now its "we don't refill early" and when I said " so your OK with the fact that I am going to be Tortured with withdrawls for 10 to 12 days at the end of each month ? " He said , " oh sorry buddy, It will be rough " and so.... here we are, using a one month supply of norco in 15 or 16 days and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my month..

Bummer HuH??? Anyway, I have discovered this stuff "Tramadol" and it seems I can get an un-limited supply of it, al-though when one is use to 8 or 9 norco's a day this tramadol is probably not going to cut it. I am in a VERY BAD SPOT. I am considering one of those ansthesia detox programs if i can get work comp to pay for it. I am also considering legal action against the FRP people, I do have an attorney.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, I have just spilled my guts out to the world here , so i guess i am desperate for help.

Thank You for taking the time to read this.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

Maybe go see another doctor? See what they have to say about it all.

SWIY should maybe look into kratom. It's very effective at helping with withdrawals from opiates, as it works on the mu and delta opiate receptors. It certainly helps SWIM. And is perfectly legal in SWIYr country. Though SWIM isn't at all sure how much SWIY may need for it to be effective for SWIY in helping with his/her withdrawals from hydrocodone, as SWIM doesn't have any experience with said drug.
It's deffo worth looking into though.

Also, SWIY should try not to self incriminate his or herself. And read the rules regarding that:

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

G nome

SWIM appreciates the suggestion of Kratom, and he is very hopeful that it will help with his current situation. As stated earlier SWIM has found this Tramadol and has researched its effects and potential benefits. SWIM is not at all happy with his current situation and is reaching out to forums likes this in search of information that may be beneficial to him. SWIM hopes he has a better grasp of the rules that are in place and apologizes if he previously messed things up. SWIM has one hell of a problem with the Hydrocondone/Norco and does want help getting off of it but does not know were to turn for help.

SWIM is waiting for his shipment of Kratom which he ordered yesterday , but in the mean time all SWIM has to "get by" is Tramadol and Clonidine and Lexapro. They help SWIM but not as much as he would like. As stated earlier SWIM burns through 120 Norcos in half the time that he is supposed to, perhaps SWIY's suggestion of a new doctor would also be beneficial.

SWIM says thanks again and hopes to continue to correspond.

Not to sound unsympathetic to SWIM's dilemna - we just got to bring you up to running-speed here to avoid any repeats:

You need to go and read the rules you agreed to when you joined these forums. Especially the rules regarding self-incrimination - as you are in violation of this rule. As a newbie, you can't yet edit your posts, so a moderator has been notified to assist you. The rules are here:

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/ann....php?f=184&a=1

Other than that - listen to G nome's advice.

And G nome: In that you are showing a willingness to help newbies get their feet on the ground here, you could copy the above legal-boilerplate and keep it in a file somewhere to copy/paste as needed. I won't sue you. LOL.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

As far as SWIM can recall, Traemadol is a mixed opiate agonist/antagonist. They told us NEVER to take it when in a methadone program because it can precipitate withdrawal.
Also, after 10-12 days, you should be over most of the norco withdrawal, espically if you're using less than 10 / day. You should consider not refilling the next script, and continuing on with the tramadol and kratoam.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

hmm SWIM isn't sure of tramadol being an opiate antagonist, is SWIY maybe not getting confused with buprenorphine?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It's an atypical opiate. It's a mild mu-agonist but is also thought by some as yet not fully understood action to modulate the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

Uhh.. SWIM hates saying this ... but one of his good friends was in the exact same boat as SWIY, and started doing H with SWIM for his pain relief. He quickly realized that for pain relief, H is like a fraction as expensive as a ton of Rx meds. This worked for about a year for him, but then naturally the whole tolerance thing/needing more creeps up again and he had to go to rehab. If you got the money to do it, get in some kind of 28 day detox program where they taper you down with suboxone or something, that is going to be the least painful way to quit.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

SWIM really apreciates any help or usefull suggestions that are sent his way. SWIM believes that he is beginning to feel the full effects of withdrawl and it scares the shit out of him. SWIM feels like his brain is telling him " SWIM is aware of what you are trying to do offering him Tramadol and clonidine and Soma , but what SWIM wants is Norco and he is not willing to accept any substitues and is willing to make you painfully aware of this fact " SWIM wishes he could over-rule his brain but finds this to be a losing battle. SWIM's order of Kratom did not arrive today so SWIM is going to have to wait another day to see if the Kratom will help with the situation.

SWIM is use to taking tablets so he ordered his Kratom in tablet/capsule form. SWIM has abolutely no idea of what dose SWIM should try or if he is supposed to break his tablets open to release the powder. Does any SWIY know if the Kratom capsules will come with dosing instructions, SWIM is not looking to OD, he simply requires relief from these withdrawl symptoms.

SWIM is scheduled to recieve is next RX of norco around the 5th of november, so between now and then SWIM has this problem to deal with. If SWIM could find some relief he would probably be able to put his energies into finding a new doctor or perhaps get himself refered to a new pain management program, but at the moment SWIM is consumed with wanting to avoid full blown withdrawl. The funny thing is if SWIM is being honest with himself is that he does not take the Norco for pain, he takes it in 2 to 3 hour increments to avoid what he believes are withdrawl symptoms. SWIM has taken Norco regularly for the past 4 and 1/2 years so it is really all SWIM knows or is comfortable with, this running out early problem has arisen mainly in the last year.

SWIM is greatfull for any assistance and if SWIY has any idea of how much Kratom SWIM should try when it arrives that would be fantastic.

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

SWIM knows what you mean. SWIM has been addicted to H for well over 2 years and went the past 3 weeks on suboxone (which was the longest SWIM has ever been off H since he started). It completely takes SWIM's withdrawals away and leaves him feeling physically "normal," but SWIM's brain fucking hates it. Like, SWIM's consciousness recognizes that it helps a lot, but SWIM's mind and body completely fucking hates suboxone. SWIM cheated 2 days ago and shot up again, and it was the best fucking thing ever, and reminded him how much he hates suboxone. Some people say the physical part is the hardest to beat. It's definitely hell, but even when you make it through, the mental hell is much longer and more persistent.

I would love to hear how those Tramadols work. I just read up on them after reading your post and want to know some first hand experience about them. I see you can just order them right online with no problem. Can you get high off them? Will they help with withdrawals?

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

Tramadol can be very very dangerous. It also contains, as someone has mentioned above, Selective Seretonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) which, if taken in a large enough dose, can trigger a Grand Mal seizure. SWIM experienced just that nightmare so be warned. Go and look on erowid, it clearly states that Tramadol has this extra, hidden danger! SSRIs are used as anti-depressants and are more commonly known as Prozac (fluoxetine), Seroxat (paroxetine), etc etc. It worries me when I see talk of people trying to stave off withdrawals with these because when a Grand Mal seizure comes, it comes with no warning, can happen anywhere at all, and is totally unstoppable. Please bone up on the stuff before going any further. I can only say from what I have found out about tramadol and I am no doctor so I most definitely don't know all of the facts. Maybe someone else has more info? Tramadol is a big big NO NO in my book anyway!

peace and love

Re: Will Tramadol get me through??

Swim had a bad car accident 3 years ago. Swim was on 10/325 norco over a year. Swim found a great pain managemet Doc . He gives pinpoint cortizone shots not those terrible epidurals. Swim is Down to 3 Norco a day and 3 Soma. Yes the Tramadol will take care of any W/D's. Look luck
