Question Propoxyphene-N and Naproxen

First I apologise if this isnt the correct location for this thread, I looked all over the place and couldnt find any section for pharmacuticals or pain killers.

Hypothetically, if a person were to recieve some sort of a trauma and were prescribed Propoxyphene-N W/ APAP 650 (also called Darvocet) and Naproxen 500mg for pain relief, and the doctor prescribed much more then needed, would it be safe for a person to use the remainder for recreation uses and if so how much would be safe? personally ive never heard of Propoxyphene-N and Naproxen so I myself wouldnt know the answer to this question.

Re: Propoxyphene-N and Naproxen

Propoxyphene-N is a mild synthetic opiate.
Naproxen (Aleve) is an over the counter pain reliever comparible to ibuprofen.
If the darvocets are 100 mg (like they usually are) they are roughly comparable to 5 mg of hydrocodone.
But synthetic opiates have a different high than semi-syth, which are most pain pills prescribed, and it seems everyone reacts differently to them.
SWIM has a delayed reaction to them, so they don't kick in for a few hours. Strange because he's never heard this from anyone else.
One should start with maybe 2 and work their way up.
And yes, it is safe unless one was to take more than ten, then they'd just get sick. Like I said, one of the weakest opiates, but pleasant if one doesn't do pills often, which seems to be the case.

Hypothetically have fun!!

Re: Propoxyphene-N and Naproxen

I'd be more concerned about the acetaminophen in the pills. At least have SWIM perform a CWE on them to get the propoxyphene hydrochloride into solution and filter off the APAP. Some people have negative effects from propoxyphene, so a monkey should go slowly.

As for naproxen sodium - that stuff lasts for at least 8 hours and can cause bleeding ulcers in some people. Don't ever increase the dose of that muck. I wouldn't recommend taking it at all. The drug company that made that stuff lied through their teeth about it's safety, and the lies still are there for doctors to read in the PDR. It's the most likely OTC NSAID to cause serious injury to people - after acetaminophen.

SWIM wouldn't worry about extracting from APAP unless he was taking large amounts. There's 650 mg APAP per pill, doctors say to avoid taking more than 4,000 mg APAP per day, so hypothetically one could take 6 without worries of liver damage.
Also, Propoxyphene-N is Propoxyphene Napsylate, it's not the hydrochloride form. Not sure if it would work as well with the CWE, but it shouldn't matter unless your planning on downing the bottle.
Like Swim said start with a couple, work your way up, and research the facts.

I never knew it was formulated with that. Yuck! Hope SWIM doesn't end up puking blood for a lousy Darvon-high. <shudder>
