Heroin Problems

Swim is the biggest idiot he has been doing heroin for 2 years and got kicked out of his parents home,broke up with his girlfriend and his is still having a hard time to call it quits. His parents and everyone keep saying its not going to get better and he understands but is just having a hard time giving up the thing that makes him happy. Why is swim so blind to the facts and cant just see that heroin actually did mess things up and he is not one of those people that can manage its use. Basically is there anyone who is similar to swim?
