Opinions - Suitable Substitute for marijuana?

SWIM has been a frequent user for the past 5 months and is finding it hard to stop, especially at night time when he has made it a habit to vapourize a decent bowl and watch TV until he falls asleep in his bed. Is there a substitute that shares the same unharmful and (most importantly) low addictive potential (aka. nonaddictive) properties of weed that gives a high??

SWIM tried vaping tobacco and found it MUCH worse than the smooth effects of weed. And gave me a headache probably due too much of a headrush from vaping it.

SWIM wants to stick with herbs or other natural alternatives, but any suggestion of any substance is helpful.
